I am trying to gather datapoint on the modus operandi of this CU...I have seen/noticed that most people who apply for the credit card online get much lower CL ...mostly in $5k...compared to those who applied over the phone with the rep...Those who received CL over $10k by applying online, can they provide some of their data like credit score, how many new accounts and inquiries in 6/12/24 months? Total available credit?....Also, has anyone asked for another review for a higher CL or requested for CLI? If so, what is the process and what is the successful rate...any phone number for that? How many more applications could be filed with one credit pull? Meaning for both credit cards and PLOC?? I am trying to gather data for few of my friends. Thanks.
I thought there were plenty of DP's here. Many online approvals for $25K+ (yes a few $5K)
Beware of all the people hollering congrats! 📣📣📣
Before BCU became the FOTM, I applied on the phone with a rep last month & was approved for $5K, my TU was 680, with a BK7 from 8/20 & inqs were 20.
I was approved for a 30K LOC and 30K Travel Rewards off the bat with an online application upon opening membership a few years back. INQ and new accounts were both at LOL/24. 6 months later I opened another Cash Rewards card and was given a 30K CL.

You or those who got $25k CL off the bat, do you think your income played a role to achieve such CL, or is this CU like NFCU wherein income doesn't matter nor it plays any role?

Income and DTI certainly play a huge role in CU's. NFCU is not the normal for CU and no bank/cu will try to compete with that as they can't as NFCU UW is very laxed along with their income or lack there of requirements, etc. NFCU is awesome for many reasons. You can't compare anyone to NFCU
NFCU also hands out credit to anybody with a pulse. Mainly because a large majority of their membership is military related and there’s a guaranteed garnishment if things go south.
BCU is willing to extend high limits and ignore new accounts and inquiries, but it does require the income to match. NFCU could care less usually either way.
That being said BCU’s products aren’t anything to write home about either. It’s just that their underwriting is easy to work with and they’re just the FOTM right now. I’ve had other CUs offer me just as high limits without balance transfer or cash advance fees that BCU charges, plus better insurance suite benefits.
I have my auto loan with BCU but I hardly ever use their credit card and I have another LOC with a fixed 8% rate that I use instead, but BCU’s rate is decently close if your credit is good enough.
Having said all that, BCU just recently opened the floodgates and their Account Protection team was already twitchy with restricted membership eligibility, so I can just imagine what this free-for-all eligibility is gonna do. Imagine BECU’s Financial Crimes Unit level of invasiveness. Do NOT lie or mis-state facts, not that I should even have to say that. LifeMoneyYou is the free eligibility option and follow that path. I’ve seen too many people ask how they can get in and it looks like they’re not even trying to figure out how.
One of my friends applied for their credit card online even though she has dedicated representative on her account...But she got approved only for $5k...and now she is very upset...She has not applied for any credit in 14 months...her score on TU is 812...No new account and no new inquiry in 14 months...Income is over $150k...utilization is less than 1%...as she owes only $500 ...She has total 27 revolving accounts and total available credit is $800k...She couldn't figure it out why she got this much CL...This is her lowest CL in 20 years...The length of her employment history is the only thing she is thinking went to decide this low CL...because she got this new job only 3 yrs ago and application did ask about it.
She did contact the dedicated representative on her account to forward her request to underwriter/loan officer for review for a higher CL, and two hours later she heard from DR that loan officer said that $5k is the maximum they could offer her at this time...but no reason given why....She has made an appointment to speak with a loan officer after 10 days because she can not talk over the phone during the day while she works because of the nature of her work...So, during July 4th week she is off. She is very upset with this kind CL especially when she is very selected to which credit card she should get.
As for me then I have not applied for any credit card from them yet nor I have any plan in this year unless I change my mind. I joined this CU in the end of May...last month...I did have a credit card from them last December with SL of $25k...but no more...But I definitely wouldn't wish to get this low CL... But seeing that some people are getting lower CL, I am hesitant to apply. Besides, right now I already got 2 cards and I need to respond to 2-3 more pre-approved offers....So, doesnt seem any room for this card...
Everybody gets a “welcome” agent at BCU upon opening membership. They’re not a dedicated agent for your account. They don’t have any special access or tools other than just inquiring with underwriting if they’re willing to budge on an automated approval.
Here is my info when I joined and applied over the phone and was approved for $25k.
