Decision to Make: Citi Pre-Qual...

So after almost 2 years I finally got a pre-qual offer (actually 4 or 5) on the Citi Pre-Qual page. The 2 that looked the most appealing were on the DC and Simpicity with 13.24% APR's---12 month 0% BT on DC and 18 month 0% BT on Simplicity....HOWEVER seeing how notorious Citi is for very low SL's and I also have one major Citi card already (Sears M/C) I'm going to pass for now b/c I might just use that HP to get the limit raised on my Sears Mastercard that just recently auto-upgraded from a 3 year old Sears store card. Thinking of asking for a $8K CLI to bring it to $10K-even though the APR isn't the best.and there's currently no BT offer on it. Any thoughts or opinions appreciated.

Citi is slow on the DC SL but on receiving the card, there are multiple reports of huge CLIs using the same app HP. Worst case after 6 months Citi is liberal is giving out big CLIs with only an SP. Unless you really need the extra $2k at Sears, getting the DC with a new BT offer and trying for the immediate CLI is a better use of the HP imo

I probably should have clarified a little better: the Sears M/C is currently at its original SL of $2K---wanted to try and bump it up to $10K with a HP. It's a toss up between taking a HP on an existing 3 year old acct. or adding a new TL with great terms but a low SL.....did that 2 weeks ago with AMEX ED and not sure if I'd want to do that again Smiley Frustrated Still have my AAOA to consider.

Re: Decision to Make: Citi Pre-Qual...

Just food for thought, but for Citi pre-quals have come and gone for me within days with no profile change. One day, I get the best rate on all cards, the next I have nothing for several weeks/months, then they are back again at the highest rate, then the lowest, then gone.
So if you want any of those cards and have the plan to use then and PIF, get the card you want and don't worry about the SL.
If you are looking for a card to make a major purchase and pay no interest for a while, then yes you always got to worry about the low CL's with Citi.

I can't seen much merit in wasting an HP on the Sears card, which sounds useless. If your going to take an HP, you might as well get a useful card like the DC.

Good luck

YupYup--I hear perfectly what you're saying. Thing is I had the same offer on AMEX ED very recently--took the bait and got approved--but only ended up with a $1K SL. I can't even use it for any of the BT's I had planned for it--so it's pretty much useless to me right now and I took a HP for it....thinking the same thing might happen with the DC or Simplicity...and I'd have to take additional HP's just to HOPEFULLY get it to a limit I could use. True--the Sears card isn't very useful either with a 25.99% APR--but at least I've already had it for three years so I wouldn't be taking an additional AAOA hit. I'll probably leave the other offers alone for now and hope they come back around with the same or better terms someday---but thanks for the advice!

Just like what i been experiencing with Citi you just as well throw your AAOA out the window (if your dead set on them) and if you want to get a decent limit with Citi after approval (Because It Will Be Low Line Period) you'll have to Recon thru EO and of course as we all know that is good for yet another HP but many report very good increases after all that mess.

For me on a new card with Citi it is always a notorious Double-Pull on EQ + EX Smiley Frustrated

Those great looking Balance Transfers Offer Cards are well designed to be issued with LOW LIMITS that won't even begin to be useful for any BT that you might have had in mind unless you also contact the EO and eat yet another HP.

That's just how they are.

Re: Decision to Make: Citi Pre-Qual...

@CreditMagic: I agree about some of those BT offers and am going to take a lesson from my AMEX experience. Although with the AMEX I did also get the 13.24% APR and I do have the option to move some of the $17K over from my BCE to do the BT's, but am not goin to do that--I'm trying to have BCE as hopefully one of my first Visa-M/C-AMEX CL's in the 20's. Not looking to further tank my AAOA with another $2K or less CC either--UNLESS it's with a new lender I'm trying to get "in with" to establish myself.
