Denied CLI with Cap1

The rejection letter from my last attempt 6/01 showed they use EQ -- cited for high Util (true -- was 86% then) and low score. My util has cut in half and my EQ score has jumped 70 points since then so Sat I pulled the Luv Lever on both of my QS cards -- wait for message.

Last night the messages came: they used EQ data from 5/29, hence very high util and a 70 point lower score. This morning I called and they said they can only go by what the CRA sends them. I said you don't SP of you'd have up to date info. She said they do. Kick rocks is what she really said.

Hell of a way to treat a customer of 7 years.

It is what it is OP. Unfortunately, as evidence points out by other folks, there can be a lag with reporting tied with the SP used for the CLI. That's Capital One for you. Similar reports by others with SYNCB, Comenity, etc.

You can always try again given it's SP. Unfortunately, they cannot override the system decision to reconsider using a fresh pull.

As I learned this morning.

But it strikes me an ineffective policy re: customer retention.

Re: Denied CLI with Cap1

Their portfolio management allows them to be picky about which cards grow, attrition or new customers.

So while that policy may seem "ineffective" to you, they have their own internal policies that would otherwise seem effective to them. They're really not bleeding out customers as the approval subforum shows plenty of folks getting approved or receiving CLIs. Give it time.

Re: Denied CLI with Cap1

We see lots of reports of Capital One using old pulls. Given that, I don't think the rep's info was necessarily accurate.

What you might ask is when your next account review will be. The rep should be able to tell you that.

The good news is that being declined doesn't prevent you from requesting again as soon as you think it's a good time.

Yes, that would've been the question to ask. BTW, this was a supervisor. The CSR was brsuhing me off with: we have no control of the reports or the scores here call the CRA and here let me get you a telephone number. Not so fast, my friend.

@Anonymous, I wouldn't count on a rep to be well versed on things that are decided by the computer. I woudn't blame the rep for that. They simply aren't given the information.

A while back, I asked a second tier Chase rep about how they decide whom to pull. She said, "we've been trying to figure that out." Smiley Happy Essentially, they were collecting data points and trying to determine patterns just like we do here on the forum.

Re: Denied CLI with Cap1

I havn't had the best of luck with Cap1 either. Most of the time, their CLI's are measly like $300 to $500. I once requested for a larger increase and they declined. I think Cap1 is more interested in having new users with lower CL's, rather then increasing CL's for existing users. The highest CL's I have seen are usually from people that had multiple cards and PC'd/consolidated them into 1. Rarely have I seen Cap1 give large CL's for their cards. (Not counting Venture as I have seen some larger limits.)

Re: Denied CLI with Cap1

Check your prequal page.

Often, new Cap One accounts are much better than your old accounts if your score has increased more than 50 points.

I was denied CLI on both my cards, was prequalified for Venture, applied and got $30,000 @ 13.99% apr the same day as my CLI denials.

It is just the way it is.  Research buckets and class ceilings related to Cap One.

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

Wow! Thanks for sharing that. Do you have any DP to add?
