Attempted a preapproval for the Venture X. I received a denial stating " Based on your credit report from one or more of the agencies below, there are too many revolving accounts". I have 2 Capital One cards (Savior One and a Platinum which was unsecured in the beginning of the year.) I can upgrade my Savior One to the Venture or Venture One but I do not want to do that. There is no upgrade for the Platinum. I'm assuming now that my secured card is unsecured I am at Capital Ones limit. My signature is current. They pulled Transunion for a SP.
Sorry to hear about your preapproval results! I saw some YouTube videos about Capital One recently saying that you can have 2 to 4 Capital One cards. They mentioned if your cards were secured cards or didn't come with a sign up bonus that Capital One may put you in the only 2 Capital One cards allowed group. I'm curious if that might be what's going on with your pre approval denial. Other than that being the reason I am stumped why they gave you that result.
I'm hoping after high spend on the card for 6 months I can upgrade to a Venture card. IDK if i can then upgrade the Venture to a Venture X.
Just watched a video where the guy had two cards and called and asked if there was a limit and the rep said no. He got approved for a third card.

It doesn't matter if your existing Capital One cards had a sign up bonus when you opened them. Prior to my Venture X approval I had a SavorOne (no SUB version) and a QS (started as a QS1, then VentureOne and then to a reguar QS - changed from Plat to WEMC network level at that time). Also, while I agrree with other comments that CSRs often don't know much, I've been told (and thus far has held true for me) that you're only hard limited to two cards if both are sub prime cards and that the no sub "for good credit" versions are not treated as sub prime by Cap One. (said it was otherwise based on your profile whether they would allow more than 2 cards with them).
My Platinum card use to be a secure card. My Savior One did come with a welcome bonus so I'm assuming I had only one subprime card so I should be able to qualify for another card. I attempted to do the prequalify for the normal cards and only secure cards are being offered. I am in good standing with Capital One. No lates, bank with them and have two car loans with them.
I don't think that is a comment to having too many revolving Capital One accounts, but just having too many revolving accounts as it is (btw - I get the same response, and only have 1 Capital One account, but several other cards).
So only one of my cards are subprime (Platinum). It was a secured card for a couple years. Never used it because it was a low limit of $600. I decided towards the end of last year I was going to try and get it unsecure. I put about a little over a grand on it for a few months and it unseucred and I got my money back begining of this year. I could not get a CLI and gave up. then Three months ago, I again put about $300 on it each month and just a few days ago I got without asking a $3k CLI.
If I go to the product change on my bank app I get offered the Venture and Venture One card as a replacement for my Savior One. I get nothing for the Platinum. If I try and get a third card I get offered the secured version of the Plantinum and Quicksilver and nothing else. So it looks like I can get a third card, just not the Venture X or any other Prime card.
I want to product change the Platinum when I get the chance but IDK what to. I do not want to miss out on the welcome bonus but I do not want any more hard pulls. Wonder if I can product change it to the Walmart card if I call in.
