Chase likes to see 1 year of established payment history before letting a lot of people in.

This is not accurate. It depends on the card product. Actually when I came back to the credit game I had no active revolvers and one brand new approval when I got my freedom. I had a prior relationship with chase though.

Chase prefers to see a year, although people have been approved with less than a year, usually through the pre-qualified site.  Although with anything YMMV.

Re: Denied by Chase Again

Just because Chase likes to see a year of payment history, doesn't meant its the end all. Im just saying from personal experience they like to see a year of payment history.

Re: Denied by Chase Again

I got the Freedom after 4 months of history and the CSP a month later. Both through prequal. But I had no lates or derogs. My file was clean.

Re: Denied by Chase Again

I think as with anything, YMMV. But *generally* Chase (and other lenders as well) prefer to see at least a year of history.

Re: Denied by Chase Again

It seems to me from some of the messages I read on the boards here that when you're at that early stage (history less than a year, but some history nonetheless) that some lenders are less likely to extend credit until after you have a year or more of credit histoy than they are if you had no credit history whatsoever. I.e., they'll be the first or "third" to extend you credit, but not second if you know what I mean.

I was denied again for this card.  Credit history: in the 2000s I had a discover and capital one card for a few years I barely used, and a couple store cards.  They all got closed except Macy's charge for not using (I was on mostly cash economy then and "screw the banks" lifestyle).  About 3 years ago learned about travel hacking but it's a lot harder to get cards now.  I got rejected by everyone even for secured because of "no history"...finally Citi employee helped me get Citi classic secured $300 in bank almost 18 months ago.  Three months after used shopping cart trick, appoved for $500 VS card.  On one year anniversary of the secured (almost 6 months ago) got approved for Capital One Journey $3000 and Discover $500.  Just granted automatic $500 CLI on the Cap One but still can't get foot in the door with Chase, they said history is too short.  What to do?

Sorry to hear, ddub, I know it must be frustrating. I Agree with ryox's advice above. Hang in there!

Chase need 6 month minium credit history. 1 Year is better.

If you have no cards, I would apply for capital one secured card. and let it build for up to 1 year. Then app for freedom and close the secured card

This.... ^^^.  I had my secured CC 14 months before I got in with Chase.

Re: Denied by Chase Freedom + denied after Recon

I started rebuild with secured card, one year later got rebuilder card, didn't apply for first prime until 1 yr 5 months (secured card unsecured, applied for cap one month before). By the time applied for Amazon visa, had well over one year recent history.

Re: Denied by Chase Freedom + denied after Recon

Seems like all your cards are in the 2 year window. Too many new cards in two years for Freedom?  Or is 5 okay, just not more than 5?
