Ugh! I've been waiting to get my next card which was going to be USAA, and I just got denied.
This is response I got...
My scores are over 700, but I only have 10 months of credit history. I thought for sure I'd get approved, my only worry was how much of a limit I would get. I've been a partial member of USAA for 6 years. A while back, I was blocked out from accessing the credit card section of the website and was told that partial members could no longer apply for their credit cards, but my access was reinstated a few days later. I wonder if that is the real reason? Even though I was able to apply?
My current cards are the Capital One secured ($500 limit) and the Delta AmEx ($3k limit). My plan was to garden for 1+ year after getting these two USAA cards. I only have one inquiry since April, the rest are from November and earlier.
I definitely need a Visa/MasterCard (with not a toy limit) and ASAP, so now I'm off to see what I want to apply for. My utilization is 1 perceht, so I'm pretty stunned at this rejection.
I'm not sure how quick new inquiry alerts come through, but I have instant credit monitoring and no new inquiries are showing up yet. I am going with the theory that they didn't even hard pull me at all, but are sticking with restricting access to partial members, something I mentioned in my first post...and that was the reason for denial.
Just my theory. Still stunned.

We regret that we cannot approve your application for the following reasons:
- Length of time accounts have been established
- Too many accounts with balances
- Too many inquiries last 12 months

Wow... I'm so sorry to hear this.
I must say I'm a bit surprised... my own approval with them was when my own profile was much more 'shaky' than yours. In my case I still had some 'baddies' showing up, but I didn't have any inquiries and I had no new accounts at all (my handful of accounts were all several years old; AAoA at that time was around seven years). My score was in the 660s, though... significantly lower than yours.
As lousy as this is, the good news is that the remedy will require nothing from you but patience... I suspect once your AAoA is a little higher you'll be welcomed with open arms at USAA. (I know if it were me, I would be strongly tempted to say "to hell with them" and write them off completely... but try to keep things in perspective. Linked to your USAA checking account, a credit card with them can be very useful... just hang on a bit longer, you'll get there.)
Since you mention you have low inquiries, I suspect the 'real' issue is low AAoA. That's good news, since there are other companies that won't be as picky with AAoA as USAA apparently is.
Again, I'm sorry to hear things didn't work out, but hang in there. You'll be able to get a MC/Visa card fairly easily with your scores, and in time you'll be able to get that USAA card as well.
Note: I could be wrong, but I don't feel the denial was caused by a membership issue... others have said that at times HPs can take a day or so to show up on the monitoring sites, so there's still a chance you'll see the HP even though it's not there now.

Thanks, UncleB! I even waited until my 3k limit was reporting so that I could potentially get a high limit with USAA. Yeah there a few MC/Visa cards I have in mind, so I hope to be posting about an approval soon!
I'm definitely interested in taking things slow, hence me gardening after opening this card. I just really need a decent limit on a MC/Visa, so I guess after that it's off to the garden. Thank you for your insight.

I was a partial member of USAA for several years and was never approved for a credit card. One of the reasons I closed my USAA checking and savings accounts and went with NFCU where I am treated as a member with full benefits. And, approved for a credit card with a $25,000 limit.
I was not informed when I first joined USAA that I was considered a partial member. That really irritated me. As a partial member, you don't have much in the way of perks - no car loans, no insurance, evidently no credit card(s). I was glad to cancel my relationship with USAA. Haven't missed them at all.
@LAKings, my recommendation is to seek membership with NFCU. They are awesome with credit card approvals!

I'm a partial member as well, and I was able to get a credit card back in 2014. As far as I know, you can get car loans (and other loans) as well - I actually have an 'offer' right now for both an auto loan and a personal loan, both with specific APRs.
I'm sorry they didn't work out for you, but they have been really good for me, even though I'm not able to get insurance with them.
I'm also with NFCU, and I really like them as well. I agree with you that the OP might want to at least give them a look. They can be challenging to gain membership with if you don't have a military connection, but once "in" they are great.
I was recently denied by USAA again for thier Visa with their $35 aannual fee. I've met their requirements as they post and still denied me. They don't do recon and have been by far the hardest institution to help rrebuild my credit. Just asked about insurance for another car and they wanted me get a loan through them. I'm never going to even bother giving USAA my business when my credit is healed.
I'm sitting in the mid 600s have multiple Capital One card with cl of $8k for a solid 3 years of on time payments and two car loans that are two years out no missed payments. They are stingy.

Hmm that sounds rough. Based on my denial, they are picky about AAoA or something.
To update...I apped for the Barclays JetBlue card and got auto approved for a $6k limit, double my largest limit. Shocked me. So all is well!

That is interesting, Uncle B. I was specifically told by USAA that as a partial member, I was not eligible to apply for car loans, loans, insurance, etc. They did not mention inelibibility for credit cards, I must confess. Thought because I could never get one, that was another minus for being a partial member; evidently a mistaken thought.
