I recently applied for a Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card from Chase and was rejected initially because they couldn’t find my credit report (but they still did a hard pull on Equifax and Experian).
So, I called Recon Line today and the agent pulled my credit reports, but still denied me because of: “credit report shows too many recently opened accounts”.
I’ve the following cards: 1x BofA card from 11/2018; 2x Amex cards from 08/2019; and 1x Amex card from 02/2020.
I think the reasons were made up.
I’m 4/24, almost zero utilization, no late payments and such. Thin credit file though (less than 2 years).
Only 1 hard inquiry in the last 6 months (and that’s the one Chase did now on this application).
I’ve a checking account with them since November/2019. Income is 80k.
Do I still have a chance here? Try recon another time?
Sorry to hear about that. Unfortunately, chase is currently doing a one and done for recons. Once you've called in, they won't look at it again.
I would let your accounts age since you said that you're file is fairly new. Things are a bit different from say 6 months ago and that is a driving force behind lending these days. Give it some time, app as the economy gets better and you profile ages.
I'm sorry for your denial. Just curious since you say you've only opened four cards, have you added any AU accounts recently?
No. There's only 4 accounts on my credit report, I'm not authorized user in any of these cards, all of them I'm the primary card holder.
While you're under 5/24, you have two very recent accounts and one that's barely passed a year.
Being under 5/24 doesn't mean there isn't aggressive credit seeking, especially with young file.
Calling again won't help you. In the past it might have worked, but now, they will just read you the notes from previous analyst.
Let your accounts age without new applications, and when your youngest reaches a year, you should have no problem getting approved.
