So it was my 93 day of having my Hilton Card with Amex with around 12 spend on it with always paying in full. So is it automatic 3X if you just ask for exactly 3X or is different if you ask for more than the 3X? Guess I just expected a counter asking for 20K from my current 5K. Letter emailed said it was because of the public record Bk. Think I would still received same response asking for the normal 3X increase? Thx
I think I have read here before about AMEX not giving CLI's if a bk is still present on your reports. However I will say I requested $10k cli on my Everyday Preferred from its $20k sl a couple months ago and I have a bk showing still and they approved it. Amex was one of my burned creditors also. I only asked for $10k as the card started at $20k and didn't want to poke the bear with a 3x
Dirty profiles, particularly BK profiles don't have 3x CLI's as a given
Probably would have gotten the message if you asked for a $1 CLI
Keep spending, keep paying back in full and hope you can break through the denials before your BK falls off

As a rule, Amex will not consider CLIs until the BK falls off. However, there ARE exceptions. They are generous, however, in approving additional cards after they let you back in the door...IF they do...51 months post-BK.

1. Amex doesn't penalize you for asking too much; they just counter.
2. This thread doesn't belong under "Credit card approvals".

Can I ask when and for how much you burned AMEX in your BK and when they let you back in? It's the last lender that won't let me back in yet and it's been 10 years, the BK has recently fallen off. Thanks.

I burned them in Dec of 2015 in our bk7. I don't remember the exact amount but figure it was around $5k spread between the Green Card and the at the time Mercedes Benz card before those were turned into Platinum cards. I was let back in March of this year with the Everyday Preferred and the Gold Card being my first approvals. Have since added back the Green Card, Blue Business Plus and just yesterday the Blue Cash Everyday.
ETA: Before getting back in I tried looking through Pacer to see what I burned them for as I was considering paying them back to get back in but never could find the amounts in all the online files before I was let back in anyway. So I did not make them whole before hand.
