Did not know Cap 1 credit steps counts as a CLI

Good Evening Forum Members

I recently asked Cap 1 to raise my QS card's CL trying the luv button then live chat then calling Cap 1.  All three times I was denied.  I was told that I just got a CLI on October which was my completion of Credit Steps.  My argument was that the CLI was not requested by me it was given by them.  So why does that count as a request on my part.  The rep said he didnt have a difinitive answer to my question only at this time I couldnt get an increase and could wait about 4 to 6 months for another.

Has this ever happen to any of you, and if anyone knows what the top CL a QS Mastercard that was originally a Platinum before and upgrade can reach.  I am at $1300 now can I expect a lot more or will they cut me off at a certain limit?

Thanks for reading my post, as always comments and advice are welcome

Have a Blessed Evening

Re: Did not know Cap 1 credit steps counts as a CLI

I found this out the hard way when I was looking at my docs and saw my last personally requested CLI was June 12th and got the too soon message on the 13th. I called CS and found out my steps was on the 17th. I plan to use the love button on friday for good measure.

I just personally think a steps cli shouldnt count towards a request from a consumer since it was initiated by Cap 1 and not by me but i dont make the rules

I agree, however I also know the only way around that is through EO and I have asked them already twice for the card and its been a no. I need to payoff my bull$hit cards (Surge, Blaze etc.) before I ask EO for any luv again.

A CLI is a CLI. How is it not? Just use and pay your card well for the next six months, then hit the luv button. 6 months is generally a good rule of thumb for CLIs with Cap One, but there have been sooner exceptions.

Whether you asked or it was auto generated it is still a cli in their system. I have encountered this with other cards. As far as limits on the Qs Mastercard, my current Cl is $6k. I started my credit journey in Nov '14.  The Qs1 was my first card with a $1k limit. I haven't had success upgrading to a no fee account though.
