Hi, I'm doing an app spree. I currently just have a CapOne secured card. It's over 2 yrs old. Paid on time and pay it off every month down to about a 5-10% ballance. My scores are 674-678 as of a couple weeks ago. My reports are pretty clean aside from a couple of old collections.
I havent applied for a new card in a couple years. I just applied for CapOne quicksilver and Venture. I was pre approved, but got a message to wait for something in the mail after I applied online.
I'd like to apply for t least 2 or 3 other cards, preferably not store cards. And have all my credit cards combined be around a 10k limit. Any suggestions for what I should apply for?

I would pay off the Verizon and electric bill accounts first. I would also sericously consider paying off Chase.
The alternative is to wait a year and let them age off. That would still leave the Verizon bill.
Your credit score will get you in the 'gate' to be evaluated. Open collections are a much tougher thing to get creditors to actually grant a line of credit. In many (not all) cases they are a show stopper. Once paid, they are old enough, they won't have much impact since your scores are decent already.

Thanks for the advice. I think the Chase charge off will fall off my report in Jan. I would pay the collections, but I thought that would do more harm by putting recent ativity on the account.
Anyone know of a card that pulls just Transunion? That only has the one verizon collection. Or maybe I should just go for another secured card for now. I didn't realize that smallish older collections would not allow me to get a credit card. Seems like a minor issue overall, but I guess not.
Barclay is known to be a TU puller. Synch is also generally a TU puller (except for me where they always pull EX lol) but with a <700 score you will likely get a store card.
Don't pay collections that old unless it is PFD, the new activity on an old collection will cause your score to drop (unless they are actively reporting monthly on the collections).
for credit cards preapproval = prequalified; its not like a mortgage where the terms have different meaning
You can get that Chase CO removed now. Call EQ and ask for an early exclusion on that account. EQ will delete 1 month early, EX 3 months early and TU 6 months early. Contact Verizon and offer a pay for delete(pfd). Several sample letters on the forum. Never pay any collection without a written agreement to delete it.

Thanks. It's going to be at the 7 year mark of last activity in Jan. I'll see about the early exclusion next week. Couldn't hurt to ask.
The verizon collecton went to pinnacle. They are tough from what I read. I should still send the letter though, since it's going to be on my report for a a few years.
