I owe about $4700, spread over a few cards including a JCP card. After noticing my credit limit had been raised automatically, I requested another increase and got my JCP to $3000. This is after having it stuck at $500 for over three years. I wondered if my other cards were due for a limit increase, and amazingly managed to go from having around $20000 in available credit to $70000, which I figured would greatly help my utilization. I managed to boost the credit limits of my Discover and Capital One cards as well.
This is where I made the mistake of applying for new cards. Very dumb. Before that, I tried asking for another CLI with Amex, thinking things had improved for me. Amex started me with a $500 limit, I guess because I was borderline. Amex has denied me a CLI in the past, so of course I tried to apply for another card with them. Denied. So stupid. I should have known better. They aren't extending ANY new credit to me at this time. Not a CLI, not a new card, nothing. Instead of leaving things alone, I went and made the mistake worse. I applied for a Victoria's Secret card, TJX rewards card, and Walmart credit card. The Walmart application got denied.
So...app spree after increasing my credit limits, denied for 2/4 cards I applied for. And this is after opening a few new accounts in the last few months.
I'm just wondering if I am risking getting my accounts closed by what I've done, particularly my Amex account. I'm kicking myself right now.
What AJ said is apot on. Time and paying down your debt is all you need. Head over to the garden for 6 to 12 months then try for another Amex let those accounts age and balances go down. Show responsible use and then you'll get your CLI's and some more cards just choose your cards wisely don't apply just for the sake of applying. Get good cards that compliment your portfolio. Dv
It is easy to get into app fever. The good thing is that you haven't done anything that time won't fix.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, but cool your jets on the app spree. I haven't seen much AA taken against people for inquiries alone. Usually it's the act of getting approved and opening a new account that has more of an impact on your chances of AA.
Let those inquiries age off, pay down the debt, and you'll be fine. All damage to your scores will be forgotten in 12 months.

It happens to the best of us lol. I recently had a oh no why did i do that moment that made want to revert back to my inner shell but then you realize we are human make mistakes and get caught up in the moment. Just take a step back, garden some and dont apply or request for a couple months. Let things settle . Make a plan to pay down your debt than go forward and set goals on what youd like next. Time and good payment history will heal most. CONGRATS ON YOUR INCREASES THOUGH
+1 AJC
Likw AJC said, we have all been there. We get caught up in the moment and the next thing you know -- BOOM! We've shot ourselves in the foot, so to speak. When I read the heading, I thought "uh-oh." I really thought you were going to say that you starting receiving AAs on your CCs. So, you see, your actions are not that bad and definitely not stupid. It's just "lessons-learned." So, follow AJC's advice -- step into the garden for a bit and nurse your garden back to where you want it to be, and watch it blossom.
