Direction for New Credit

Whats up guys. Ive been in the process of helping out a friend develop his credit. He just turned 35 and has never had any kind of credit....So I made him an authorized user on my Barclays UPromise World Mastercard. It has a limit of 5,800 and has been open about 18 months. Never late and the utilization is about 1% because I just had paid it off...When it showed up on his report, I applied for the capital one Quicksilver, he was approved with a 1,000 starting limit. I was hoping he would get a higher limit but he is only an authorized user and has no other credit so, IMO, its a great start considering when I started I had the subprime QS 1 with a 500 limit.

Im wondering now, when that account shows up on his report, which direction we should go next? Any ideas or thoughts would be great....Hes only got that one inquiry...A credit Union or bank isnt an option for him right now, so im just wondering if you guys know of any other cards he may be aproved for?

Thanks for the help

Why isn't a credit union or bank an option?

If his file is thin , Discover and Amex may be best bets.

Re: Direction for New Credit

Discover is a great starter card and right now they are matching your cash back for the first year. ☺

Re: Direction for New Credit

I suggest giving it 6 months for FICO score to generate, then check various pre-qual sites before making next move, any approvals at this point will probably come with high APRs and toy limits due to lack of history. Take your time, building credit is a marathon.

Re: Direction for New Credit

I'm curious how your friend managed to get a QuickSilver card without a FICO score.  He must have had some sort of credit history in the past.

Re: Direction for New Credit

Again, I added him as an authorized user on my world MasterCard which shot him up to an instant 750

Re: Direction for New Credit

Other than that one account, his file is completely blank

And well, eventually it will show his quicksilver card which is what I'm waiting on to display before recommending him to apply for anything else

Re: Direction for New Credit

Is that 750 FICO? If so he has previous records on his profile.

Re: Direction for New Credit

Flako and Vantage Scores
Which have been always accurate for myself so that's what I'll go off for the time being

Again, there's no need to speculate what may or may not be on his credit file when I'm looking at his credit file as I type

THERE IS NO OTHER ACCOUNT ON HIS FILE
NO OTHER INQUIRY
NO HISTORY BESIDES THE ONE I PROVIDED
