Disco CLI Denial after 12 mo

I thought for sure Disco would finally bestow me with a CLI from my measly $500 SL after having the card for 1 year and after 12th satement cut, but no dice. Card was opened with some high util on an AU account and thin file, but that balance has long been since paid to $0. I'm banking MR points right now so most of my spend goes to AMEX, but it's still a little frustrating. Relevant DPs:

AMEX Gold NPSL

AU on several other accounts

TU FICO8: 760 (from Disco)

EX FICO8: 747 (from AMEX)

Util: 6%

No derogatories

Income: 62k

It's hard to convince lender to give you increase when you're not even making a dent into what you described as "measly limit"

You want increase from Discover, they want consistent use. You can either divert some spend from Amex, or lower your expectations for Disco increases.

@Remedios Thanks. I wasn't meaning to be rude with the word "measly," I'm just a little frustrated becasue I had read that their new policy for CLI increases on new accounts was one year, and i figured with such a small SL they would certainly give me a little more once that period was up. I've put almost $2,000 worth of spend on the card over the year, including one month where I cycled the limit and several others where I had to pay it down mid cycle to avoid having it report with high util. Guess it's not what they are looking for though.

Re: Disco CLI Denial after 12 mo

I did not think you were being offensive at all. My card started at similar measly limit of 1000, and it grew to $25,000 in a span of 18 months.

At that time I had a tiny fraction of available credit that I have now, so I used it all the time, and they were giving me increases all the time.

Once that stopped, they friendzoned me and it's been like that ever since.

Back then putting $2000 per month on it was relatively large amount compared to the limit. Now that's not even a drop in their bucket, so they just don't play like that.

Re: Disco CLI Denial after 12 mo

It's a matter of patience and usage over time. I was stuck with a $500 credit limit for 2 years. I'd spend heavy, pay if off then spend again. Always paying in full, never holding a balance. All that yet they kept declining my CLI requests for TWO YEARS. Then in January 2021 I requested a CLI - they gave me $300. In February I requested again - they gave me $1500. Another request in April - $1500 more. So Discover has given me $3300 in 4 months compared to $0 in 2 years. The CLI's will come, I'm proof.

Something else on top of the great advice you've been given, Others and myself didn't get our 1st CLI until the 13th statement cut.

Put a little spend on it and maybe give it a try after your 13th statement.

NFCU Cash Rewards 16K CL
Citi Custom Cash 7.5K CL

Re: Disco CLI Denial after 12 mo

I agree that Disco will want to see use before granting a CLI. I got no soup from them for over a year with the same reason 'low activity on current credit line of credit' and then received a promo 0% APR. I took the offer, and starting using the line for about 2 months.

Asked for a CLI this month and got $5k (up to $13.4k).

YMMV.

NFCU Platinum $50k | Amex Delta Platinum $25k | Elan Financial $19.7k | Chase Freedom Unlimited $16k | Bank Americard $16k | Discover IT $13K | NFCU Flagship Rewards $10k | GS AppleCard $5.5k | Citi Simplicity $3k
