So when my Disco upgraded to unsecured, I didn't receive an auto CLI. I wasn't surprised since my TU took an unexplained 30 point dip for the two week period that Disco AR'd me. I decided to request one, and got the reasons for denial today.
Drumroll:
- Cash activity on your account
- Number of recently opened accounts
I can see the recency thing. All of my credit is less than 2 years old other than student loans. Several accounts 6 months - 1 year, and 1 brand new account showing at the time of pull.
Cash activity on account? Is that for Paypal? I took one cash advance once when I was stuck somewhere that I couldn't pay with a card and had forgotten my debit card... for $40. Is this a real reason?
I do not do any sort of MS.
I've never seen the "cash" reason before but, I suppose if they were going to deny you for another reason they might throw that in there. I wouldn't worry about it though for the time being. Just give it 2-3 months and try again. There are some issues at Disco at the moment for CLI's from several posts around here. Hopefully they fix it and things go back to normal with plentiful CLI's

Can I ask if that was a Cash advance, or a Cashover (aka Discovers version of cashback on their credit card)..
Iv used Disco for a cashover on a few occasions and never saw the Cash reason before. but they probably just threw it out there ..Some banks are worse at the reasons than others....
The amount sounds like it was a CO vs a CA., but that reason is usually for cash advances, thats why im curious as to which it is, .... If you need cash on a disco. if possible use it as a cashover vs a cash advance.. at a grocery store or other store that supports it.. because discover just codes it as a purchase.... and treats it as such....
MS - Manufactured Spending i.e. buying a ton of Gift Cards to satisfy a bonus spend amount / earn rewards

I just went to Google it to learn more about it, and I'm pretty astonished that I still come up with a lot of hits from sites which actually advocate this and tell you how to do it. If there's a more blatant way of gaming the credit-card system, I'd like to know what it might be!

It was definitely a cash advance, I used an atm and withdrew $40.
Discovers been a bit wonky lately even after they supposedly fixed the secured card insta-reject issue for CLIs... I wouldn't sweat it..
A few folks who were getting even small CLIs like clockwork and big ones... its seemed to stop....
Predict it may come back around in a few months.....
But thats just a guess..
Reason I asked was I do use cashovers periodically and requested CLI and that reason code has never come up.. thats all..
When do you think youll try again, 31+ days, 61+ days or 91+ days....
Don't think I'm going to try again soon - the other reason was for new accounts, and my AMEX, CLOC, and Chase cards haven't even been reported yet. Not gonna sweat it for awhile.
Unfortunately HPs are a bit harder to fix... Ill save a seat for you in the Garden... =)
