Hello Family!
I've been reading all the threads on the infamous Disco DD and the timeline on CLI's, but just wanted to get everyone's input on my situation and what I should do.
Have had my Disco it card since end of April and have been putting some heavy usage through it and always PIF the statement balance by due date. Have been doing this same thing with my Citi DC card and was approved for that card just two days before my Disco it. I requested a CLI with Citi two days ago after my 2nd statement cut (less than 90 days from account opening) after seeing the SP language and was instantly approved for a $2K increase, bringing my CL from $6.1K to $8.1K.
Question is to those familiar and with experience more or less with their Disco cards: Should I wait and see if they show me some auto luv after making this third statement payment, and perhaps even upon my fourth statement cutting, before requesting a CLI or should I just go ahead and try now? I guess I'm asking because after reading all these threads, a lot of individuals have good luck with the DD and I don't want to perhaps push it too fast if I could possibly get more by waiting a month.
My scores have dropped a bit after my baddie from four years ago (repo) now reporting the remaining balance to a collection agency and it reflecting on my TU report. Thankfully that's the only bureau it's been reported to thus far and I hope it stays that way. My app spree also dropped my scores a bit, for they were all in the low 700's just a couple of months ago.
All feedback is greatly appreciated! Thank you MyFico family!!
I got my (second) Discover IT card in mid-March, and put heavy use on it through the 2nd quarter (supermarket/grocery). The third statement cut in late June and I did the same as you, waiting to see if there was an auto-CLI. There wasn't one, so I pressed the luv button and came up with a CLI, though a modest one ($500). So, in short, yes, after statement #3 cuts is a good time to see about your first CLI if you don't get one automatically (though if you do get an auto-CLI, it won't hurt to try the luv button too because there's always a chance of being able to manage a double dip).
Total CL: $321.7k | UTL: 2% | AAoA: 7.0yrs | Baddies: 0 | Other: Lease, Loan, *No Mortgage, All Inq's from Jun '20 Car Shopping |
Any auto takes upwards of 5ish days after statement cuts. So that's how long I'd wait after the statement cuts before trying a luv button. If nothing comes up, go for it. Either way if you're going to get it, you'll end up getting it and can try DDing it. Only suggest waiting a few days to see if the auto is granted because if you end up going over what the auto was, you apparently get decreased down to it and have to call in to get it rectified.

Thanks! I'll probably follow a similar pattern. I'm going to pay this 3rd statement off and then wait for the 4th statement to cut to see if I get some auto luv. If not, then I'm going to press the luv button and go for it!
Thanks everyone for the feedback! I'm going to go ahead and wait a couple of days past when the 4th statement cuts and I've PIF the 3rd statement balance. Will follow-up back here once I see what happens...
Yeah just wait for the auto CLI and then hit the cli button so that you can get max benefit. Good thing with discover is that there is not time period between which cli's are approved. Although, generally it's suggested to wait for 30 days between cli approvals.

Agreed; I'm going to check again for a CLI at the end of this month or early August. I don't know if the 30-, 60-, or 90-day "trains" for CLI approval with Discover are still a thing, but it never hurts to push the button once or month or so at the right time to see. Remember, if you don't get approved this month, the best thing to do is to give it another month and check again then; hammering the button, as satisfying as it may be, doesn't usually yield anything.
I would try every 90 days or so.
I have received 2 or 3 CLI within about 7-8 months.
It is a SP, so if it says "not enough time at current limit" I try again 30 days later.
