No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
So, I pull the trigger for a Discover card after they give me the preapproval, and I submit the app. Then, I get the "verify more info" page, as they seem to not comprehend I can have a home that is paid for. So, I fill that page out, then, I get "We've got your application, but it's still being processed." Before I can leave this page, I get an email stating "Great news! You're getting a Discover card." When I log into the site to see what the credit line is, it tells me "Unfortunately, we are unable to approve your application at this time"
I wonder what is going on with them.
Perhaps call in and see if they can clear it up.

Me too! That's pretty strange. As has already been suggested, I think you should call them and ask what's up. As for having a house that's paid for, they definitely *do* understand that, as that's my situation and they've never had a problem with it.
I have a similar issue, own but paid off. on most credit apps they give you a choice of own or rent, if you mark own they search your report for your mortgage. i know they do this because a cc company told me during a recon call and another lender last year in the 7-10 day letter listed one of the reasons as lack of mortgage.
these cc companies need to make an adjustment on their apps for that.

Definitely. Years ago, BofA wouldn't accept "0" as a housing payment. I kept complaining until it got fixed!
If these companies would just offer appropriate choices, such as "own -- with mortgage" or "own -- outright" that would solve these issues. But when you're forced to pick "own" and then they expect a dollar amount for its monthly payment....and you don't have one....you try $0 and then get told that's not a valid amount.....or they search for a mortgage and come up blank...
Another flaw with some cc apps is they ask you for taxable and non taxable income. for the most part ssdi is not taxable but if you put the amount under non taxablle income you get denied. I know this because i did it and got denied for a cli because of it. i reconned and they gave me the cli after i explained but initially gave me the 7-10 day boot.

Yep, been there, done that, too! My SSDI was not taxable, not one cent of it, as I had paid for it while I was working and had already been taxed on that income. But I came up against that anyway. So far, since switching to regular SS, I haven't had an issue....oh, wait....I haven't applied for anything in the 10 months since it changed, so I don't know yet...
Let's get back on topic please. Thanks.

At the risk of running off-topic, I have not experienced any issues when it comes to that particular field.
I own a few properties and there is no mortage on any of them and I simply enter $.01 (sometimes .02 for fun). Some lenders provide several choices in that particular field, but others do not since the field criteria is not universally mandated, but easily explainable if the question arises during any UW questions. The lack of any mortgage on my CRs has not prevented me from obtaining new CCs or CLIs 🤷🏼♂️
Now, before this thread goes into a deep-dive on this particular field (or any of its choices), and as mentioned by @OmarGB9 upthread, let's bring it back on topic, please.
@SoCalGardener
I wish I could share that same problem you guys have, lol.
