Discover Approved then Closed

I'm not sure if that is a April Fool's kinda day but I called Discover earlier today regarding the status of my account. It's been placed on hold due to documents required (SSA authorization form and SSN card)... no movement since last week but something told me to call and there I go, being told that my account has been closed due to business reasons! And I'm told to reapply! I told the representative that I don't want to risk another hard inquiry!

Has anyone ever encounter this situation? What should I do now?

Re: Discover Approved then Closed

I can't even reapply for a Discover card. My account shows a closed card from 2018 that Discover closed for nonusage. When I try to reapply, it says 'status of prior account' as the denial reason, and they don't even pull my credit.

But with Discover moving to Capital One, I dodged a bullet.

Wow that's frustrating!!! Sounds like discover isn't playing nice with old accounts.

Thanks but I'm not interested in any credit cards right now, especially Discover. I'm closing on a house in three months.

Wow. Very rude of them, though I can’t say I’m surprised. They’re a bit loco over there.
Or maybe the business reasons have to do with their new corporate daddy?

@DeeBee78

Found it was not the best to be credit seeking during a residential dwelling unit loan process. They made a lot of extra work out of it and verifying the new accounts. Truth, I did not know to leave credit applications alone for at least six months ahead of the (do not know what it is today) loan process.

As to Discover Bank now Capital One, there are many financials that you could visit when the time is right and seek information on them here if needed (you know this).

Agree. Currently I have Chrome, which to me, serves no purpose. CL still stuck at 1.2k since it was graduated from a so-called "secured" (Chrome) card and I had no good luck trying to CLI for the card, and they also took away the option to product change the card (I wanted to change it from Chrome to Cashback) I'm waiting to close it before the year end.
