How risk-tolerant is Bank of America for Atmos Ascent?

Hi everyone, I would like to apply from Atmos Ascent (from Bank of America).

It's $95 AF, and the saving alone on luggage for my wife and me would save me money. (We fly Hawaiian Airlines 1-2 year)

How risk-tolerant is Bank of America for Atmos Ascent? Would I quailfy?

My Current Fico Scores are:

  • Experian: 692
  • Equifax: 712
  • Transunion: 693

AAoA - 6 Years 7 mo

AoOA - 18 years 9 mo

Total Credit Limit (Personal) - $29.8K
Utilization - 4% (I pay statement balance full every month)
I started rebuilding in July 2023.
I burned Chase, Citi, CapitalOne, and Synchrony.

I did NOT burn Bank of America.  I had a BoFA card 2013-2017 which I paid on time and hardly used. BofA kept limited that account to $500 for some reason. I closed it in 2017 with $0 Balance.

  • July 2025 - CapitalOne Quicksilver $6000

If BofA is risk-adverse, how risk-tolerant is Bank of Hawaii or Barclays?
If I'm denied by BofA, I may apply with Barclays through Bank of Hawaii for a Hawaiian Airlines card. Then I can convert to Ascent later on after I use my SUB.  The card is not available on the main page, but the application link is still active.

Is BoH or Barclays more Risk Tolerant than BofA?

Thoughts?

I'd guess Barclays would be a little more lenient, based on my experience. It's probably a toss up leaning in your favor with both though, to be honest.

I can't answer your question but I would like to take the time to commend you for saying "for my wife and me" rather than "for my wife and I" which, in this case, is the correct grammar.  Nice work, most people would incorrectly say "for my wife and I"  !!!!

If you want my advice, you can pay me with sincere gratitude or money, and not necessarily in that order.

CONGRATS!! And disregard below lol. bad habit of not reading comments before I comment lol. Working on it

Your chances are better with Barclays imo.

BOA doesnt really do recons any more and I'm scared the 2/6 inquiries coupled with the lower score would scare them. I have never been approved for a BOA card with a less than 720+ score. And they don't really have a prequal. BOA does very much value relationships. I deposit 10K+ a month for several years (3+) into my BOA primary checking but they cite "lack of investment relationship" because their terrible customer service in branch prevents me from moving my investment accounts with confidence to them. (so they deny my CLI requests on current boa credit cards);

At least with Barclay's Im pretty sure you can 1) recon - I did it before 2) do a pre approval soft pull (last I checked)

Good luck! @E36

Last person I know who got approved for Atmos card had a 765 FICO and 150k+ income and only got $5k.

Marriott PR$25k | BCE $24.5K |BankAmericard Visa $25k| BOA Better Bal $17.5k |Wmt Discover $12.5k | BR Visa $17.5k | Amex Delta Gold $10k | Discover IT $10k | Paypal Extras MC $15k | Amazon Store $10k|Smile Gen $7.25k | Dillard's $10k | West Elm $4k| Express $3.05K | Mypoints.com Visa $4.5k | Freedom Visa $1k| Amex Surpass $1k

Thanks. It's a blessing.

I don't know why:

  • Was it because I fly Hawaiian Airlines a lot? (Do they help with the underwriting?)
  • Are different channels more generous? (I went therough the website on the handout with the code of the flight I took)
  • I had a good payment history and good standing with Bank of America in the past? (As you said, they don't care about relationships)
  • I also had a hard inquiry in April 3, 2025. I don't remember what I applied for. But it was one of those fake prequals that BofA does which is more like an ad than an actual prequal. (Did that put me on BofA Radar)?

I'm glad I got this card. It was on my interest list. Even though other cards interest me, I've locked my reports and am going to start gardening (I don't spend a lot, so these are a lot of cards to spend with).
