Got Card begining of June. So had my last CLI July 1st as it came a bit early(approx after 75ish days) for a whopping 500 to bring it from 1k to 1500. Been trying to last several days and 3-5 day denials.. So it has been over 91 days since I last got a CLI. What do you all think? Calling in won't obviously help as they are nice CSR, but are just robots that read from the computer. I don't know why they gave me such a pathetic CL to start out with either when other cards average around 15k and many are much higher. The card is pretty worthless to me as cant use the 0% apr for purchases and/or BT's. I suppose yes it can be used for double cash back for the first year. In all honesty (probably not smart of myself) in spite of not getting a CLI I refuse to use the card now. I know that sounds stubborn and childish, but why reward them if they don't do the same back.
Any advice would be helpful.. At this point thinking about cutting it up and just keeping it open until my double cash back hits then cancel it. I know this was a small rant and don't expect much in terms of sympathy. I dont think I am special, but I certainly think my credit deems more than a 1500 CL. Just venting a bit about odd ball discover.
A bit more about how used card... First month or two put 800-1k a month on it then after only a 500 CLI put it back to around 200-300 a month for 5% cats only. So probably around 3k-3500 ran through card since I have had it.
/end rant
Appreciate the reply Pizza.. But not going to reward them as rather give use to Amex/Chase, etc. that give me usable limts
. Much prefer to reward lenders with spend that like me than ones that give me "crumbs"

Very understandable.....
They may also look at your profile, and think.."well, he's got lots of other cards with much higher limits, I doubt he will use us much anyways"...![]()
but I understand, its very frustrating.
Sorry to hear, CC. I actually received my only two CLI's with Discover when I had very minimal usage, so DIscover is all over the map. When I've run $2k per month through it for 4 months and paid in full, it didn't seem to matter.
I've been on their HP list for months now. Whenever I request a CLI, the system wants to do a HP which I won't allow. (I've seen too many people (myself included) allow a HP with them and then receive a $500 CLI, which is crazy.)
My card is 2 years and 4 months old and I have tried everything under the sun, with mixed results. Only 2 CLI's in that entire time, and both occurred with extremely minimal usage. Many of my other cards are between 14k-20k CL per card, so I understand your frustration.
My guess is that they wanted to be my only card and are mad now that they are not. It may be the case with you as well.
I may also be caught in an HP coding loop, which I have seen others mention as well.
Another piece of information that may help: More than one person in Discover Customer Service has told me that Discover still considers accounts under two years old to still be fairly "new". Kind of ridiculous, but it gives insight into their mindset.
I'm sorry I don't have more to offer as Discover can be weird and is frustrating to me as well. My limit is higher than yours, but it's small compared to my other cards as well. Discover can be difficult to figure out.
I've kept my Discover account at zero balance for the past 2 or 3 months as I am just getting a bit tired of them.
I agree with you about not rewarding them with your business when they are not giving you a reasonable starting CL, any level of growth, or being open to CLI's. I want to give my business to lenders that feel good about the relationship, the same as you. ![]()
Also - another thought, CC. You mentioned you have a lot of inquiries (and new accounts) showing on EQ, and that it is your most inquiry heavy report.
I only have a few inquiries on EQ, but it's still my lowest score because EQ seems to be more impacted by new accounts than the other bureaus. My new accounts are mostly 5 months old, but EQ still seems to be impacted more than the other bureaus.
Discover seems to SP EQ a lot for me, and twice when I have gotten CLI's with Discover, they have used EQ, so this may be a factor for you. Time and distance from your newer accounts may help. Just a thought.

Very well could be it.. For most it is 91 days at latest no matter what their score is. My profile is a ton better than alot of people with alot bigger SL along with bigger CLI in general. As always YMMV
Don't cut the Discover card as it is a good card. You need to give it some more time and stop requesting the credit line increase like 91 days. That does not work for everyone. If the 91 day request is not working, then change tactic and request it in 120 days or more after heavy usage.
I know seeing CLI for the card here - board can be tempting and encourage you to try, but remember every profile is different. For example, I just started using mine putting at least a $1,000 through it.. Never requested a CLI every 90 days. I gave it a bit of time and when I requested last month, they gave me a $7,000 increase.
So develop a way to use the card, be patient and you will be happy.

That isnt the denial reasons.. Reasons they use is not long enough experience at currently Disocver limit or something along those lines. I know my score/inquiries are alot better than many being EQ that have higher SL and bigger CLI's.. Discover just makes no sense to me.
As stated I am just ranting and honestly they owe me nothing, but with that said I owe them nothing either and just choose to not use them at all and keep account open for at least a year and get my extra $100 + they owe me then decide after that.
I hate complaining, just wanted more feedback from people in my boat. You sound like you have a wore boat than me though being they want a HP.. Feel for you there.

Thanks for another view.. I can go with not requesting a CLI for awhile method. Although will not use heavily unless it is on 5 or 10% cats as those of course will be PIF. Sorry just venting and yes every profile is different as we all know. Something they surely don't like in mine. Only issue I have with them is the CSR's are extremely nice, but not empowered beyond what their computer allows them to do unlike say Chase and PenFed, etc..
