Discover CLI Issues

Hey everyone,

So I don't really need a CLI, but I figured I would ask for one since I use the card quite heavily (BT is sitting on it, which will be paid off on Monday as well). I sent in a request since they had to get a hard pull and I got a letter today stating that they were unable to approve my request because they were unable to verify my credit references. I contacted customer service, where I was encouraged to check the accuracy of my credit reports and try later. I offered to send them credit reference letters, but they said it was not necessary.

My CRs look fine. Should I escalate to the EO? I've never heard of this denial reason before.

Do you happen to have a fraud freeze on any of your reports?

No, I do not.

Re: Discover CLI Issues

Typically this would mean they drew a blank CR. I would make a copy of the report they used for the HP and when the denial letter comes send copy of it too along with a letter you will write to the office of the CEO asking for reconsideration.

Hello everyone,

I received the same letter in the mail today. I didn't understand why because initially I was trying to receive a CLI with a SP. They wanted to HP I declined. I then received a phone call from a rep and I said no I didn't want to proceed with a HP. She asked was there any other questions since she was on the phone. I said no thank you and hung up. Friday I decided I'm going to go through with the HP the worst they can say is no and I've heard that before lol. I proceeded online said yes to the HP put in my number received the usual message may take up to 2 days to process. Yesterday I received a phone call from Discover my request was approved new limit $13700 from $9200. I said ok that was worth it!!! Fast forward I check the mail box same day received the letter cannot approve unable to verify credit references on TransUnion but lists my FICO AS 781 the date says February 26, 2015. My letter dated March 12, 2015 WTHECK!!! I hope this helps. Discover wasn't auth to pull my report then and they didn't. They just pulled it on the 20th when I authorized it.

Hi, I may be able to clear things up. Whenever you decline a CLI request after they need to HP you, they'll send you this letter if you make another application and approve the HP (at least that was what I was told when I called a few more times).

So the update is that Discover wouldn't approve my CLI because "they are a conservative lender." I guess I'll wait for the letter and see if is worth fighting or not.
