Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

I just started asking for CLIs with Discover this year. I got the card in 2015 with a $5k SL. I don't remember exactly when my card got CLIs, but in January of this year, it was at $7k. I never really cared to increase the limit because I don't use it for anything but 5% categories or to take advantage of special cashback bonuses or discounts they offer all the time. But, I want to grow it for BTs if I ever need one, and not kill UTIL on the card.

Mid 2015 $5k SL

2016 - 2017 Auto CLI to $7k

1/18 CLI from $7k to $8.5k

2/21 CLI denied (letter: insufficient experience)

4/18 CLI denied (letter: insuffiencit experience)

5/18 CLI from $8.5k to $10k

7/7 CLI from $10k to $11.5k (DD denied)

Maybe at some point I will get another discover card but not anytime in the near future. The 10% back the first year was nice but I’m not interested in taking another HP & new account for a discover account.

There seems to be a common theme that the second discover CL isn’t all that much higher then the first one. I certainly don’t want to add a new account for a 2500 CL and no signup bonus. Discover will forever be limited to 5% only unless they raise it to a much higher CL on its own. I like discover as a company but I just am at the point where adding new accounts to my report isn’t worth it unless it comes with a useable CL and signup bonus.

If that doesn’t happen in the next couple years , I will have to re-evaluate at that time.

I just want to counterpoint here that my second Discover IT, which I got in March, had a SL of $5000, twice as high as my first one, and with the CLI (albeit a modest $500 one) that I got Friday before last, I'm about $2200 ahead of where I was with my older Discover at this time. That being said, I'm planning to BT what's left on the older card to a lower-rate card in the near future and then see about reallocating as much of the CL on the older card to the newer card as possible; ultimately I want to combine the two cards next March, but of course there's no telling whether a CLI will be available on either card then - that's one of the requirements - and reallocating CL's will be a good plan B if I can't combine.

Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

I had my first auto increase on my $2000 SL discover card in March (after 4th statement) bringing total to now 2400 sadly did not double deep, looking back wish I did. Tried for cli in 90 days later in June but got shot down. How often after the first auto increase does discover grant another? Going to try again for a increase in September. Want to try not using the card for the next 3 months to see what happens.

Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

Had the card now about 17 months

Went from $1800 to $2200 after about month 11. It was an auto-increase

Every other CLI attempt has been denied. Tried on the phone, tried through online requests several times.

They are showing an internal credit score for me of about 643

I carry a balance month to month.
