I was getting CLI's from them every month until I added another AMEX (3rd AMEX acct.) last Sept. and since then, they've stopped approving my CLI requests. Just continue to garden for about 6 mos. then try again.
You are right. I need to chill for awhile. I just didn't think Discover is sensitive to inquiries or new accounts.

Don't give up rewards, so if you're making purchases in their 5% category definitely still swipe the card, but not for anything else. Move any non-5% category spend to other cards. Show Discover some tough love and perhaps they'll reward you with a CLI. 2 months ago I got a $5500 CLI from them after a $5 (single swipe) spend the previous cycle.

My strategy obviously isn't working so I will indeed try your method for the next few months and see what happens.
My Discover stayed at $500 from 2013 to 2015. It's now at $35,000. Give it time to grow. It definitely frustrated me, but now I get an increase just about every 90 days, and they're increases that Discover gives, not an increase I request.
AJC nailed it.. Either Discover likes you are they don't. Obviously there is logic that is involved, but nothing that be figured out from someone on this forum other then very little credit or fairly recently out of a BK and they will like you otherwise they are totally non predictable.

Wow $35k with Discover?
Datapoints pls. Is it your main card? Do you open new accounts often? Thank you
I switch back and forth between it being my main card and Amex BCP. Right now it is, I legit have no rhyme or reasoning to what card is my main one, I'm weird like that

I went through an app spree when my scores improved about 2 years ago, but I haven't opened a new card in over a year at this point. my utilization is around 10%, and fluxuates. i hope that helps some
They seem to want to be your daily driver but they want you to use it with care. This is my only card atm and i use it for everything but i'm paying down consistently to keep the utilization low and i just asked them for a CLI and they gave me 500$ and i don't even have a FICO score yet.

For awhile there was some reason to their madness...but now all bets are off for the most part...
From personal experience they like virginal credit ..Clean.. A bit on the thin side.... no baddies.. but at least a score generating unless its a student card... And at that time. they liked to be driven hard... but as the daily driver/highest balance in your wallet...
Part of me is thinking that Discover cards are starting to get stuck.. esp if they are secured cards... Used to be a bit more leeway to grow out of the box... But not so much these days... Still my highest limit card in my wallet...
Feel bad for folks working their way up and some of the heavy hitters. Know im fortunate enough to be on Discos good vs bad list ....
