Discover CLI question

Have had my discover since 4/22.   I'm an AU on my husbands since 6/22.

I have put good spend on it and use for my AZEO with $15 reporting on a $1,000 Cl.

Since 4/22, my other cards have increased (care credit to 5k, BCP to 4K and Lowe's to 9k)

Are their CLI auto? Are they SP? If you call, is their an amount that is preferred to ask fir? TIA

Re: Discover CLI question

Discover does do the occasional auto SP CLI. Requested CLIs are also SP. After a couple of years quietly lurking on these boards, I can tell you that if you search the myfico forums for the words "monkeys" and "dart board" that you'll turn up a fair number of discussions about Discover's CLIs.

Re: Discover CLI question

If you prefer to do it online instead of over the phone, Discover has a "Credit Line Increase" option under the "Card Services" menu. If you can access that page, then they'll ask you for your income and housing payment information to determine if you're eligible for an increase. If you're approved for it, then they'll let you know what the maximum CLI amount is.

When I was riding the "Discover gives out CLI's like candy on Halloween" train back in 2015, they gave me a little slider to ask for less of an increase. I always found that funny until I realized I was stuck with a $17,700 CL that they won't budge on (thereby triggering my light OCD). I recently asked for a CLI after years of letting it sit as-is, only for Discover to tell me that I wasn't using the CL enough for them to increase it. I was always under the impression that Discover likes heavy usage, so that was fair enough for me.

As far as I'm aware (in my years of lurking and learning on these forums), Discover should SP TransUnion (or use whatever most recent SP they've done) for the decision. The specific bureau might be dependent on where you live, though. In the letter they sent about my recent decline for a CLI, they referenced TransUnion data from a week or two before I requested it. There's no indication of any HP's elsewhere (and they never mentioned a hard inquiry of my report when I asked for the CLI), so I'm left to assume they were just checking in on me with their routine SP.

Good luck with your CLI!

Re: Discover CLI question

That's exactly where my Discover is stuck too: $17,000. I use it to max out the bonus categories, but there's really no use for Discover beyond that. I don't ever see myself getting to the level of spend that they want to justify raising my CL. Unless I do some type of balance transfer, which I don't need at the moment.

Re: Discover CLI question

I've been looking at my discover CL and today just decided to try the CLI option they have online , was extremely simple - added my income and my housing payment and recvd an offer to increase my CLI - was a soft pull. CL updated immeditatey.

You get the maxed out bonus and then say no use for it beyond that? Well isnt that why we get rewards cards? Get the goodies for using a card? They made money and you also. So the credit line doesnt mean much if its a $1500 limit on spend for the 5% catagory. @Suzette2 's card at $1000 can get the same rewards as you with your CL. Welcome to the forums.

Re: Discover CLI question

Got a "we cannot grant you a CLI at this time."   My credit has risen a lot and I've used it and PIF.    Is there a recon number? I've had 5 statements with them.....🙄
