Re: Discover CLI rules

I hit the CLI button every 30 days....still nothing! I finally wrote them and will end up calling because this is pathetic! I have friends with scores in the 680's that got 3-5k CLI. I should have been clearer in my last post.

Clarity helps... It happens though.  Ok so Disco doesn't base everything off of score or they would jump in CL's like AMEX does with mine being in the 830's.  It's a long and arduous path to redemption sometimes.  Every 30 days is a bit too much from experience.  I would switch it up to 60 days for a couple of cycles and see how they handle that and if it still sucks then expand it to 90 days.

@When I started out with them I was @ 744 for an approval.  Disco gave me a paltry $4500 when AMEX came in right off the approval at $10K.  90 days later AMEX jumped to 30K  It several months of tinkering with the CLI button with Disco to get them up there.  It's counter intuitive wiht Disco in comparison to other lenders.  I have a couple of extensive threads on them due to the lack of info around here preceding my experience with them.

I took the approach of playing hard to get with them the first year and just picked a couple of bills to put on there and setup autopay for the balance.  Disco is like a crock pot where you put your stuff into the pot, turn it on, and come back at the end of the day to fetch it.

Discover is very strange! I have a 754 TU fico score and just hit one year with their card and all I have been given was two 500 CLI every 6 months. no late payments and 5% Credit utilization. I don't get it. sad

Agreed- there are more than a few people here in that situation and with that type of overall very solid profile who have had similar experiences. Discover is definitely weird and unpredictable.

A manager at Discover has mentioned to me that Discover considers cardholders "new" until they reach 18-24 months of card ownership. Pretty strange.

For my last several CLI's, Discover has only given them with tons of spending. Conversely, CLI's from a year or two ago only resulted after zero spending occurred for 5 months. A smaller amount of monthly spending (normal usage) resulted in zero CLI for quite some time. So no pattern that makes discernible sense for many people with solid overall profiles.

The CLI's I have received occurred only when I was carrying a large balance on both Discover cards. I've not received a CLI when paying in full. Discover just is difficult to predict.

Sorry to hear and keep trying.

Well, if that's true, they have no problem allowing "new" cardholders to grow their accounts to monster limits as several people have referenced starting with $4000-$6000 limits and getting them to $30k-$40k in a year or so.

Perhaps that is true for some cardholders, but certainly not for all, including those with very solid profiles. Smiley Happy

There have been a number of posts from people who are frustrated with Discover and have solid profiles, so it's not their profiles or something they are doing wrong. Discover is just a difficult animal to predict, as happyman correctly indicates above. Smiley Happy
