Discover Denial

Trying to get back on track no BK but had 16k usaa that was charged off 2 years ago and will have that paid off with collection company next year- Cap one card just got charged off and wish I would have made a late payment in June to keep it... Anyways, I was in some trouble with a high car payment from when I was in a job making 30k a year more than I am now... Car accident solved that and the commercial policy from the car that pulled in front of me paid me enough to pay off the car loan and purchase another car in cash.  Since than I have sold my sports car and paid off my home equity line 16k and put 13k in a savings account- I have since paid off my cap one car which was 1114 of 1k limit over 100%utilization-

I pulled an equifax report and my cap one had dropped off and was reporting a fico of 623 a 30 pt increase- I tried a discover card today and was denied and it stated I had a 592 on my equifax and that I had high utilization....   How can that be- reports were two days apart were both pulling from equifax....

Discover doesn't always pull Transunion. I app'd with them three times before getting my first card with them.

The first two times I applied for the 5% categories card and they pulled Equifax, and then when I app'd for the non-5% categories DiscoverIt student card they pulled Transunion and approved me.

Re: Discover Denial

Keep in mind that you can apply for their weaker rewards cards and quickly have it changed to the 5% category card. You don't have to apply for their best card if you have not-so-good credit. Now with that said, you cannot change It to Miles and vice versa (yet) although I wish you could.

Re: Discover Denial

my younger brother just applied for discover last night when i told him not too.  he has a collection that updated again this month, a charge off in 2012 and a score of fico 8 612 tu and 610 eq.    AA of A is 1.8 years.    inquries 8 each.  he got approved for 1000!   discover gave him a TU score of 602  ?!  how can this be? made me scratch my head for sure.  discover IT card.

Re: Discover Denial

Some of the payoffs may not have hit your reports yet... i had problems with taking a few months for one of my cr to update completely... if you want the disco, id wait at least 32 days and check your score...... you could use discovers own score service (open to all, not just cardholders) but the day you open the account, it does the first pull and you have to wait a month for the next pull... https://www.discover.com/free-credit-score/ ... and wait around for it to climb up a bit...

may take 32 days, may take a few months, but i suspect youll see a rise in your score..

edit: that chargeoff.. uhm i wouldnt apply yet .. if its a capone card you might have luck PIF possibly with a removal..  might be early enough to get the account reopened to pay it off. is this an option?   Cap one doesnt have much of a memory ... might even be able to pay them off and open a new card in a few days.. Not recommending that right now. Check the credit rebuilding forum on how to do it if you need help.. But that should make a diff on score but it will take a few months for that to report..
