Discover Denied

Hey guys so I got a denial letter due to new accounts, insufficient history and in the multiple inqueries last 6 months, something like that. But the thing is I do understand the new accounts, however as far as history goes, I have about 5 years of history with BoA and 3-4 years with other banks, as of late across all boards are early 700's, and they go by 6 months. Should I wait until Sept/Oct to reapply? What do you guys think I should do?

Re: Discover Denied

Well, they go by the last 2 years from experian, but on the bureues I have like around 12-14, but TU is 4, the last inquery I had was in March, my fico scores are in the early 700, not 720+. Scores went down due to debt.

Re: Discover Denied

Was this a cold app, or were you trying to take a preapproval/prequalification offer (via letter or on the website)? Generally, you're taking your chances if you apply "cold" - your best chances are when you have a preapproved offer with a single-figure APR.

Re: Discover Denied

I received many credit card offers from discover and I just picked one, but I also called to apply over the phone just to make sure everything was correct. I use the preapproval offer.

I would say that there is something in your profile that they don't like...really hard to say....

Re: Discover Denied

Last May with scores similar to yours, I applied and was denied. They cited too many recent inquiries and too many new accounts.

Prior to the application, I got a BCE, Chase SW card, Dell Preffered Card. Inquires were fewer than 5 on EX. And 2 of the 3 were for an auto loan. Prior to those three cards, I had no activity for 24 months.

I was later approved in October w/ $9 SL (I had preapproved mailers but none of the codes worked and preapproved makes sites never work for me) on a cold app.

Lenders R’s aren’t aware of 0% offers. Unfortunately, all they see is debt. What’s your aggregate utilization and individual card utilization?

Basically, give it some cooling off time and they’ll come around. Your scores are good but they’re apprehensive about the new accounts and mild credit seeking behavior.

P.S. Thinking back a few years, when I was in college, I had a 730+ score and only one credit card ($1000/$5000 - 20% utilization) and a 3% DTI and they denied me then.  You never know.
