Last month I tried for a CLI on my two discover cards, both denied due to the fact that I have out an unsecured loan. But isn't a credit card an unsecured loan too??
Anyway, I called them up on the phone. I spoke to a rude man, I told him I have a 786 FICO score according to the Discover site, I have a 7 figure income and $250,000 in my Discover savings account. He then laughed at me and told me to move my money to another bank. Discover does not need customers like me. He then hung up on me, so no CLI for me to say the least. I have not moved the money out of my Discover account as of yet, Kind of lazy here but still surprised at his answer. So don't feel bad, they do not seem to want anyone at all as their customers LOL
Thanks
Mark
The guy on the phone was probably reacting to your attitude and sense of entitlement and not your request. A 7-figure income doesn't mean anything on the phone... unless you gave them access to your tax returns already, he wouldn't know if you were telling the truth. Frontline CSRs also don't have the authority to override automated decisions.
They want customers... they probably even want you. They just don't like giving out blank checks when demanded.
I have done the 4506 with Discover, I think it was back in February this year. So they verified my income. I provided them with my medical license as I am a forensic pathologist MD in four states. I do not think I am just entitled. I was broke most of my life doing a residency and not being paid for two years. Then I had to pay off student loans which are long since gone now. I felt justified asking for a CLI as my current accounts only have a $9,000 and $15,000 CL. My brother who is an electrician and earns much less then I do has a $25,000 line on each of his two Discover accounts. So I figured they would raise my CL by something, but no, shot down.
Thanks
Mark

In my case I am recovering from a small business failure which drove me into a Chaper 13 bankruptcy, however, that has since been discharged and instead of working for myself I have a "real job" where I get paid quite well. I have virtually no expenses (I think at last look my monthly expense load to keep a roof over my head, food on the table, and all other recurring monthly expenses fully paid, was hovering at only 16% of my income), I have a fair amount of money in the bank (nowhere near as much as the previous poster), and yet Discover wouldn't even approve me for a secured card (in spite of the fact they "pre-approved" me for an unsecured card).
The good news is, Discover is no longer anything special, there are lots of other credit cards out there with as good as, or better benefits and rewards. At this point I seriously doubt I'll ever apply for a Discover card again.
You're right, they aren't special, they are great. I'm sorry you don't get to experience it.
Perhaps some day.
But yeah, Disco is great.

LOL, I'll shave my head before I apply for a Discover card again.
Full Disclosure: I am follically challenged and routinely get close to the full shaved head look, so taking the next step to a full shave is not a huge leap.
Chapter 13:
I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

Hey now, some people look good with a shaved head, Uncle Fester started the trend. For me I don't want to shave my head. I am not a fan of the Charlie Brown look. LOL
Thanks

Agree. Double-Disco's here
Even though things changed (lending-wise) several years back, that easy 'low hangring' CLI fruit isn't there anymore, which is where plenty of folks have been disappointed as far as growth goes. It's still a very decent card to qualify for and accepted in more places than 20 years ago. So, having said that, I still have mine from the early 90's and currently sits at $85K (I stopped asking after a while and reallocated before it became more restrictive), the second one currently sits at $16K (full disclosure, I'm not a MD) -- as far as shaved heads go... been there, done that

Good thing you aren't MD, why would you want to make less money

I understand, but I didn't have to shave my pretty hair. Filling out an app was good enough.

I had to shave my head once. Was 7 and there was a lice outbreak at school. Luckily, I still have a full head of hair in my 40s and my friends say I still look like I did in high school. I still wish God had blessed me with always having good credit instead of good looks. C'est la vie....

LOL, I had a full head of hair in my 40s as well; one lady cutting my hair when I was something like 45 said, "Geez, you've got so much hair you'll never go bald."
Yeah, about that, five years later I was like, "Yikes, it looks almost like I'm balding." Two years after that it was either "comb-over" or "no comb at all"; I chose the latter and bought a set of Wahl clippers and cut it all off. That was over a decade ago and now I barely recognize old pictures of myself with all that hair; I mean, yikes, the only place I can grow hair now is on my face and when I do I get the full Santa Claus look.
Chapter 13:

I have a full head of hair and I am in my low 60's here. Head of hair is just that, hair. To me it means nothing and it does not matter if you have hair or bald. Hair does not make the person, the person makes the person.
Well, with that said, I guess Discover just hates me too. My cards are 3 and 4 years old so I am not a long term customer. I gave up on getting a CLI until my Lending Club loan is paid off. For some reason they frown on that loan. It is a prime loan so I do not understand.
I always said though being a forensic pathologist, if people would stop killing each other I would be out of work. But it looks like I will have my job until I end up retired myself. It is what it is
Thanks
