Discover It Denial

I received a Discover It application today in the mail with a special invitation code.  I figured I would give it a shot.  I have a Cap One Quicksilver, Kohls, Military Star Card and AMEX Everyday in good standing.  Only one over 30% being my Military Star Card but payments always on schedule.  I figured I would have a good shot at getting my foot in the door with Discover.  Unfortunately, I was denied.  They showed my credit score at 663 which I know it's not great much I've came a long way from 490's in less than a year.  I tried calling the reconsideration line but they told me that they do not reconsider applications and all I can do is keep re-applying.  Customer representative didn't seem much interested in helping me out to be honest but that's beside the point.  Should I wait for my credit score to increase to atleast 700+ before applying again or is there any other way I can check for reconsideration.  Thanks much.

Re: Discover It Denial

I haven't seen Disco do recons for failed apps.  Usually their method of recon would be offering the Secured version while on the site.  663 is high enough for an approval though from what I've been seeing.  I would say pay things down under 10% and maybe try again in 3 months.  They can sometimes be finicky if they see something in your profile they don't like even though you have a median to high score.  This is usually the case with AMEX and Disco where they look at a lot more than just your score to determine approvals or CLI's.

Re: Discover It Denial

Disco can be funny.

What's keeping your scores in that range? What did your mailer look like?

They denied me a year ago with similar scores but I had several derogs. As I gradually cleaned those up, I kept playing with their prequal site until I received a very fancy looking mailer with a fixed APR...they finally let me in but with a crap limit (less than 10% of what my highest is) and decent APR...I can't complain.

Hang in there, they'll eventually open the door...and then hopefully the flood gates. Good luck!

Re: Discover It Denial

It can be touch and go for many of us here at Discoland. Took me 4 or 5 tries before they opened the front door. Persistance, patience, and cleaning up reports are the usual remedies. Good luck in the future and great job in one year progressSmiley Happy

Re: Discover It Denial

That's why I went the Secured route rather than app for a regular card with them. I was at 630 which could've qualified me for a student card with them but Secured that graduates works fine for me.

Re: Discover It Denial

I agree Matt.... getting the Disco secured was the best thing I did. $200 and 7 months later I was unsecured at $2200. Love Discover.

Sorry OP. Either try again in 3 months if you can pay your Military card down... or maybe throw $200 on a secured card and in 7 months you should be unsecured with your score and good history. (Should is the operative word, but look at Discover Secired threads on here... it's a very popular card and this last year they started graduating at 7 months)

Re: Discover It Denial

I will never app with Discover again, I got a invitation and was declined, they called to ask for information, the lady said she was sure I would get approved but they would need to run my credit again (48 hours after the first time) and it came back declined.  Too many better cards out there to deal with their BS

Re: Discover It Denial

I have the secured Disco now, hoping to graduate later this month. Their CSR's have been amazing; even when I needed them to fix something they goofed up on my EX they took care of it right away and when I pulled my EX a few weeks later it was all fixed! Don't give up on Disco even if it means taking the secured for now!

See, you go invited to the date with Disco but, something came up and they had to cancel.  This is what's called playing hard to get.  You already have a thick profile of cards and mediocre scores to go with it.  The Lien isn't helping matters at all either.  Targeted marketing probably snagged you in the fishing net because your scores are where they start accepting people to go on a date.  Sorry you didn't get the rose this time but, if you give up you'll never know if you will grow old together.

Get your crap together and dust off your tux because when you're finally put back together like Humpty Dumpty after a fall you'll be walking down the aisle together.

The moral of the story is.... don't be bitter about being declined. Very few people around here get in with Disco on the 1st try or some even up to 5 tries.  It's worthwhile to keep trying once things on your CR are cleaned up a bit more.  They're not Cap1 where they're going to give you 10K for having a pulse.  Just to put them into perspective.... I started out with $4500 7/2015 and now as of 2/2017 they're up to $48K.

Re: Discover It Denial

Discover was my first card.  Had a 687 TU at the time when I got in.
