Discover Mailer, pull the trigger?

So about 4 months back I applied for a few cards as I was rebuilding. One was Discover IT. I was denied for mainly my baddies which are almost 6 years old now. I have two CC baddies. One paid and one not paid. They should fall off next year.

Since beginning to rebuild about 5 months ago I've been approved for the Amazon Chase, Cap one Quicksilver and an Amazon Store card. I think I have around 3-4 INQs from app spree about 5 months ago.

I received a mailer from Discover recently. It has the small APR range and 0% first 12 months so it actually seems like a real pre qual. Should I go for it? My newer cards are always PIF and current utilization is about 9% total.

I want the CSP in the next 12 months. Do you think apping for the Discover IT would impact my chances of the CSP? Scores should be in sig but if not I'm 685+ EQ and EXP. 713 TU.

Re: Discover Mailer Pre Qual

Is your "pre-qual' letter actual an invitation to apply, with an invitation code? And does it also promote the first year double cash back?

My anecdotal experience is that perhaps you should wait a short while and see if you get another invitation. I app'd for Discover last Oct and was denied flat out, the rejection letter only mentioned my 2010 BK7. Then in June I received an invitation lett w/code and I was "Yeah right, I'm not wasting another HP for you to turn me down again", But then more came every week, Mondays on the dot. When I received the 3rd one my thinking changed to "Well, maybe they really do want me", and after a few days mulling it over I applied and was was approved w/ $4k SL. So, I suggest you wait and see if they send you another.

Re: Discover Mailer Pre Qual

It had the invitation code on it at the bottom. I'd have to check, but I believe it promoted cash back. My Discover decline was over 4 months ago. Following the initial decline, I go a mail in letter that I determined was generic after posting on these boards.

This mail in definitely feels more authentic. I had expensive paper (someone told me this made a difference), specific APR range (not the general), invitation code, and 0% APR 12 months.

I also saw someon say get referred by a friend and get $50. Can get referred while still responding to mail in offer?

Re: Discover Mailer Pre Qual

From what you have said. i would say you are good to go. With your current util it seems like no problem. Same thing happened to a friend that i recommened Disco to back in January. He was denied and 4 months later got a mailer, I told him to go for it although he was denied only 4 months earlier. Thru the mailer and invitation he was approved with $3500. Not a bad Startling limit for Discover as when i got mine last August, i only got $2500 starting limit. But i must say, Despite all the negative posters about how stingy Disco is. mine has grown in the last year from $2500 to $7500 it will be exactly a year on August 12th.

Re: Discover Mailer Pre Qual

My question is can I use a mailer and also have my friend refer me? Seems I can't do both...But the $50 would be nice.

Re: Discover Mailer Pre Qual

No. You can't do both. I would suggest you use the mailer. Better apr and better chance of approval. 50 is small change. Get in door first by any means. Good luck.

Re: Discover Mailer Pre Qual

I pulled the trigger and was denied....I went through the refer a friend portal instead of my pre-qualify invitation. I wonder if that affected me at all. I'm going back to the garden Two Discover denials in 5 months makes me sad -____-

I used my friend's referral and was denied...should I reapply now with the mailer? Is that even possible? Would they only HP me once?

Reason why I used my friend's referral was because I called three times and every rep told me the probability is the same, whether mailer or friend referral. I'm starting to feel that they didn't know what they were talking about -___-
