Last I spoke with a rep, I was told I could PC or apply for a new card (inquiring about a student card after the fact) once the secured card was made unsecure.
Weird, so you're saying they said it was OK to apply for a new card even though you had gotten the secured card in less than a year but it graduated?
Mine graduated this month to unsecured (7 months, 6 statements) so I'm curious if they'd make me wait or not.
I'm still planning to wait anyway, might as well wait until my cashback match year is over in February or March and then get a new cashback match year. Those cashback matches on the 5% Discover deals is massive! I used one for a $3600 cruise so $180 x 2 = $360!
Just saw that my Discover balance PIF was $0 so I went to the preapproval link.
Denied with EQ FICO8 of 734 for "TIME YOUR MOST RECENT DISCOVER CARD ACCOUNT HAS BEEN OPEN" which as we know is because they generally don't allow you to get a second card within 12 months of the first.
Nice that they immediately give you your EQ FICO8 though, so that's a nice backdoor to a free EQ if you're denied!
My secured Discover was approved on March 17, 2017 so I assume I'll have to wait until probably March 18, 2018 but will check again in January, February and March to see!
Well I tried reapplying for Discover IT yesterday (15 days after my denial) since it now shows me preapproved for Discover IT and Chrome but I got the "Application is already processing or has been processed recently" message. I wonder if that resets the time so I have to wait even longer to reapply? I'm determined to get this card
@chaos51 wrote:DW's original pre-approval was for 10.99% APR on balance transfers for 6 months, and then 23.99% APR after that. The pre-approvals last for 7 days, and I have checked every 7 days for her, but today her offer changed to 0% APR on purchases for 6 months and 0% APR on balance transfers for 18 months then 23.99% APR for the IT Card, or 14 months 0% APR for purchases and balance transfers for 14 months, then 23.99% APR on the Chrome Card. I will update if she decides to apply. I was a little surprised that her offer changed since nothing in her profile changed. Meanwhile, my offer has stayed the same at 0% for 14 months and 11.99% after on IT, Chrome, or Miles, yet my NFCU Flagship hit as a new account on my CR since the last pre-approval.
**UPDATE** DW was approved at $5,500 starting line on the same offer she was preapproved for. She only has her FAKO scores from Credit Karma, but I can update if people are interested in scores and AAoA, etc... once I get her to check a real score. She only has a Cap One Quicksilver (upgraded from Platinum) with a $2,100 balance on $2,300 limit (ouch), but she is also an AU on about $50k worth of my credit cards with $0 balances reporting.
**EDIT** I am editing to add this from the Chat conversation to confirm the account and balance transfer. I'm not sure if we're allowed to post from chats, so if I'm wrong, please tell me! During chat and after they accepted the $2,100 balance transfer, the rep informed DW that her credit line was INCREASED to $8,000 right off the bat!
Update:
Approved for $3,500 unsecured using Pre-Approval
If you are not pre-approved for whatever reason discover offers a FICO score from Equifax but its probably not FICO 8
does anybody know what FICO model is that ?

Its not Equifax, its Experian and it is a FICO 8.
Also, I don't have a Discover card anymore but it used to be that once you logged in it would give you your TransUnion FICO 8 score there as well.
I used Discover pre-approval page and denied with solid apr. Discover was IIB.
