Discover Pre-qualify question

So I tried the Discover Pre-qualify site just hoping to get at least the their secured card. Came back with No Offers due to: Recent Deliquency with another Creditor pulled from Experian.  I don't recall any Recent Deliquency with any creditors (All AU cards are auto pay with no late payments) and in fact the score they provided me is higher from my FICO Score below.  They provided me with FICO 597.  Should I still try to apply for the secured card or just leave it for now and get my score up to 600+?  Just wanted to get in to Discover so bad lol. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Discover Pre-qualify question

What about the 45% util. Across all cards? Not counting AU's. Could be a problem.

Re: Discover Pre-qualify question

I understand this 100%! I was in the same boat. Really wanted to get in with Discover but they didn’t give me a secured prequal either. FICO was around 570 at the time. So I cold appd and got denied. Once my Citi secured started reporting, my score jumped to 601. Tried the Discover prequal again and BAM! Pre-approved for the secured card. I’m 5 statements in with it now. I would tell you to wait until you get over 600 but I know how hard it is. Based on DP’s, Discover prequals are pretty solid so be careful cold apping. Hope this helps!

OP
If you believe you have no delinquencies or derogatory, it is extremely important to get all 3 credit reports and scan through them with a fine tooth comb.

Re: Discover Pre-qualify question

Congrats on your progress thus far..

In all honesty, I would get that uti way down, watch the score jump up and try the prequal again.

You might be pleasantly surprised with an UNsecured card!!!

Cheers Hats off.gif

Re: Discover Pre-qualify question

All that 45% UTIL are from AU (No Late Payments) and should be 30% by next month

Just a hunch. What if you were removed from the AU's, what would your score be at then. What would your Util be without the AU's?

Re: Discover Pre-qualify question

I seriously don't understand how people arent getting approved for a secured until 600. They must be tightening the belt because I got approved with a 512 a year ago.

Re: Discover Pre-qualify question

@Brian this is a working theory but I think it depends on if you have baddies or not. In my case, I had plenty of baddies, FICO less than 600, and nothing going in my favor right then so not prequal for me. It seems like those with thinner files and minimal baddies are more likely to be approved for the secured card. I say this based on the results I’ve seen from myself, my mother, my gf, and my brother. All of which have Disco. But we all know Disco can be bipolar too haha.
