Discover app strategy?

I'd really like an unsecure Discover card, but my scores may be too low.   I would like to app for the regular It, and then be counter offered the secured (which I would take as plan B).

If there no counter offer, and I immediately apply for the secured, will it just be one pull/inquiry?

Thanks so much!

660+ fico is generally a good place to start. No missed/late payments. Utilization will be a big factor so keep it low <10%. Most likely disco will only pull one bureau; however they can pull all 3 if needed.

Take my advice with a grain of salt.

Re: Discover app strategy?

I got denied when my scores were 650 accross but they do not like recent lates or charge offs. Had 1 unpaid charge off reporting each month and late payments dated 1 year ago.

i am just going to try to get the secured card and just wait a year till it unsecures. or whenever. They been denying me forever , even before charge offs.

update: applied for a secured approved easily. just gonna sit back for 12 months and let the magic happen. You can directly apply for the secured FYI as well as your fall back

Re: Discover app strategy?

I can give you my situation when I was approved in August of 2015. Negatives- 1 charge off 6 months away from aging off my report, 2 collections that were about 6 months from aging off my report, 1 one year old medical collection. Postives-Walmart store card and Cap 1 QS1 that were about 8 months old with no lates or missed payments. $70k income. Received mailer from Discover stating I was approved with no interest for 1 year and inviting me to apply. TU FICO score at time of approval 626. Instant online approval with $1500 starting limit.

Re: Discover app strategy?

Oh thank you everyone.   I have a 30 day late from 7 months ago, so will probably just app straight for the secured.   I have been unsuccessful with a goodwill on that one.     I was just a little concerned about the Discover  tradeline reporting as secured on my credit report, but I am just going to put my ego aside, and get over that.   Hopefully it will be for only one year.

Again, many thanks!  And congrats Johnlee!
