Discover card Approval Odds?!?! :)

Ok church,

So i have been dying to add a discover card to my list of accounts.

I totally understand everything is always YMMV so I know theres no way of knowing for sure.

1. Scores are currently whats in my signature

2. AAOA about 2 years

3. 1 Open collection for $1500 which is 4 years old and im working on settling/removing but wont happen for a little while

4. 10+ inquiries on each bureau but not a crazy about like 40/50/60 like ive seen some people have.

5. I have perfect payment history

6. Uti is between 1 and 3% on a regular basis

How derog/inquiry sensitive is discover? I do not want a secured card.

I currently have zero open installment but my profile is thick, 25+ open and closed accounts on each report.

Several bank cards several store cards including three synchrony cards which just got $3500 CLI's on each card.

I have a chase freedom, QS1, Citi platinum secured, BOFA Cash rewards, GM Buypower, Kohls cap one, etc...

Im curious what this all looks like in the eyes of discover, or if i just really need to wait until im in the low 700's???

Any input would be great!!!Smiley Very Happy

Discover is a strange leander! I believe their computers and algorithims make their issuing decisions.,,,they dont recon.

Your AAoA looks good. How many inqiries in the past 6 and 12 months?

Discover denied me for too many inquiries + 2 OLD paid off charge offs.

You could just apply to see if their computer likes you hahah you may get countered with a secured card or a joint application. Approvals are all over the board as far as profiles go. Maybe get those scores in the low 700's and try if your hesitant to apply now.

Im gonna try again in July....one last time for unsecured then ill just bite the bullet and app secured.

Good luck OP!

Thank you!!! Im guessing it would be best just to wait a little bit. I dont want to risk the hard pull especially without the option for recon. But I will look and see what all feedback I get!

Re: Discover card Approval Odds?!?! :)

Discover is really funny about their approvals and denials.  Really all anyone can say is there's a resounding maybe based on your profile -- but then again, it's a resounding maybe based on anyone's profile.

Re: Discover card Approval Odds?!?! :)

I think you would get the approval, but I could really see it going either way at this point. If you do apply have someone refer you for the 50$ bonus. (it may even double to 100$) Plus they will get 50$ too! My wife got the discover card in Oct 2015 we have been using the card as our daily driver. She had a thin file with only student loans in deferment and AU status on my five year old Discover card, but a low 700s score. Since the approval she has gotten one luv button increase from the SL of 1500 to 2500. Two days ago we hit the love button once again (only 34 days from the first CLI) and it went to a 2day review. Logged in today and she got a 1500 increase to 4,000. We PIF on it every month and have been very happy with Discover.

Sir,

A. That is excellent news and lovely to hear the success you've both had.

B. It makes me want to go apply right now

C. Im still trying to talk myself out of it because I know deep down I should wait until Im around 700.

*sigh*
