Discover card Approval Odds?!?! :)

Re: Discover card Approval Odds?!?! :)

Thanks! If I were you and had no major purchases or other credit plans coming up anyway, then I would go ahead and pull the trigger. You can always try again if you do get the deny. I do think you have to pound the love button with them though; my credit limit went virtually nowhere in five years until I started asking for more.

Re: Discover card Approval Odds?!?! :)

I received a mailer from Discover. At the time I was approved, my TU was 626. I had a Walmart store card with a limit of $150 and a Cap 1 QS1 with a $500 limit. Both were roughly 6 months old at the time. No late payments on either. I had a 3 derogatory accounts that were within 6 1/2 months of aging off my reports, and a medical collection that was about 1 1/2 years old. They approved me for the Discover It with an initial starting limit of $1500. I got a CLI after my 9th statement cut. I had to hit the luv button to get that and it was for $500. My TU score at that time had just eclipsed the 670 point, and all derogatories/collections had been removed.

Your profile was similar to mine. i had a Account age of 2 years , 2 derogs not paid in full  scores 650 accross.  2-3 inqs within 1 year period. Denied due to charge offs and limited credit history and lat epayments. 50/50 go either way honestly.

Re: Discover card Approval Odds?!?! :)

Discover is kind of strange, its hard to know whats goes on with their systems. My husband and I applied 4 months ago (seperately of course) and both denied. They actually asked him for a co-signer or someone he could add to the account, so re-con was denied. Now 4 months later we both applied and I was approved for $1,400 with EQ being 655. Husband got approved also but don't know the amount yet. We had applied for the the Discover IT with an amaziing offer  0% somethhing...but they weren't able to provide us with that offer so they approved us with a different offer...Still double cash back but just not the original offer. I hope this helps! I'm new to posting on the forum so I don't have my scores and cards up--please bare with me; I am still learning Smiley Wink

Good luck!!

BUT the credit analyst sounded gorgeous and was extremely funny and friendly and we talked for several minutes about various things.

I'm sorry to hear that. Are you looking for a new card or just interested in Discover? I think there's one or two companies that pull TU.

Re: Discover card Approval Odds?!?! :)

I think I got mine through a recon.  I remember calling them and while I wasn't given the same terms as what I was applied for, but they did open it after the recon.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.....
Always follow these rules: Only take a HP for a new account. Always use the best rewards card for that reward category. Don't close a card unless you know you really should. Never use more than 35% of a credit limit. Recon as much and as best you can. Use the introductory period to the best advantage. Get the signup bonus. Whenever possible PIF or balance transfer so you pay less in interest. Never give an excellent rating when it is actually the norm. Always look for a discount as more is always better.
Always accept candy from strangers because they have the best candy or from people you know have good candy.
