Re: Discover is Killing Me

Guess we'll get there together. Their customer service is cream of the crop.. I'll give them that.

If their categories were a little broader, they'd get more use from me. Honestly some quarters leave something to desire. Lol

This quarter they'll get topped out because of Sam's and Amazon.

Oh no Bella!! We wont let emSmiley Wink. Calling Team MyFico , Calling Team MyFico, we gotta get Bella Discovered pronto!!.Cli cli , cli, 3 times i chant , make it so....Smiley Happy

I tried anywaySmiley Happy. I hope they open up soon for you, i think with Discover when you get those pesky denials and denial reasons just put them up on a dart board and makes holes , gotta be good for something right?. The Discover dart board for cli must be stuck in low phase, once it starts turning, those clis will start churning....Smiley Happy Stay positive it WILL happen, why else would it be called the "It" card lolSmiley Happy Cheers

Re: Discover is Killing Me

I've noticed they tend to favor Amazon for whatever reason for the past year.  They've been included pretty much for all of them.  Sam's is a nice perk though for putting some spend through compared to say the Hardware Stores catagory.  I find Discover to be a good solid card to have in your wallet.  It's not popular for travelers or bonus hunters around here due to the limited offering and slow growth for most.  I added them for diversity in my portfolio as one of those last "wanna have" cards instead of opting for the co-branded options out there.  My other wanna have was AMEX and that has outperformed my other cards as well in the first year due to the 3X CLI option.  I tend to avoid the big banks when it comes to the plastic in my portfolio due to their for profit and crappy service in the past.  Most of the cards I have are from not so well known CU's nationwide that provided better options, higher limits, and lower APR's for the off chance of having to carry a balance.  The CU cards grew fairly well with time and a HP here and there.  For rebuilding they were consistent once cracking the $5K ceiline most of us experience while pushing forward and upward.

I know Discover doesn't owe me anything and I know they will give me a CLI someday but, geesh, can't they throw me a bone? I just asked for a CLI again, today is 105 days, and was denied again. Admittedly, the first requests were too early, but this one should've had a chance just going by what I see happening so often on here.

One interesting thing, the first couple of times I asked the denial reason was "Insufficient Experience with Current Discover Card Credit Limit," but last time (not today) it was "Serious Delinquency, and Public Record or Collection Filed, Number of Accounts with Delinquency, and Length of Time Revolving Accounts have been Established." I don't have nor have ever had any delinquent accounts prior to nor post-BK. Maybe I better order my full TU report, but as of the last time I checked it was all reporting correctly.

I feel like sticking my Discover card in the sock drawer...

I believe the reason you're getting that denial reason is the bankruptcy.

Re: Discover is Killing Me

It's not the BK as Bella already has the card.  It's just Discover being funky about things.  I don't have anything on my reports and have gotten some of the weird responses when I was being aggressive about hitting the button.  The computer just flips out and spits out non sense sometimes.

Stay on them! Got one back on 7/18, tried after 60 days, got the "insufficient experrience" mumbo-jumbo. Used it a bit, denied again. Just got the token $500 cli, 90 days on the nose. They do like usage, as others have reported. Good luck!

I just have to put this into perspective..... it doesn't have to be a huge amount of usage either.  I stuck with a couple hundred a month or less for some normal monthly bills i.e. internet, phone, etc.

Sure the double cashback is tempting for heavy spending but, there's not much influence on how much it will grow by how much you put through it.  Just use it, pay it, repeat seems to work well with them.

Thanks for saying this. I've been trying to increase my spend because I've heard they want to be your number one, but I think I'm just going to let a couple bills I have set up for my Discover do the work. Maybe some other purchases too since it's Christmas, but I'm definitely going to stop trying so hard. Smiley Happy

Thanks, AJC! It has to happen, right? It's inevitable. Smiley Wink

I really like using the Discover Deals too, where you can often get 5% or sometimes even more cashback at specific stores online. For example, I wanted to get my DH a Yeti cooler for his birthday, and I figured out they carried them at ACE Hardware and had them in store. I remembered that ACE was in Discover Deals for 5% cashback online, ordered online with store pickup, and got $20 back just for making that purchase.

That would be a valid reason, for sure, but they did approve me for the card. They must like something. Maybe because I had a Discover card in the past, but closed it in good standing with good payment history. That was back when it wasn't accepted as widely as it is now.

I did the same thing with Lowe's on something stacking the 5% Discover and another 2% through ebates and picked up in store as well.  By the time I got to the store they already had it sitting at CS by the front door.
