Discover is being picky with CLI

I've had my Discover Chrome card for 10 months now with 0%interest offer for 1yr, with only (1)CLI of $500 5months ago. My limit is $3k.

I have been trying for a CLI and keep getting "low usage"...I use maybe $1k out of the $3k...and pay in full. Is this not enough? Right now I'm at about $1.5k, planning on spending another $780 in the next few days. Should I wait to pay my bill or keep going until a max then pay in full?(I wont be late on my bill, I tend to pay early, my due date isn't until 9/15)

This feels like a game...

My scores are at a nice 760 rn, it's going to be sad to see a drop with the utlization but I would like a credit limit increase...

Re: Discover is being picky with CLI

I opened mine last August, and requested my one and only CLI in February (approved). I tried again this month for my second, and it didn't even go through to get approved/declined.... it just says a CLI can't be processed at this time. I not sure what day of the month in February I was approved, so I might try again September 1st, in case they are making me wait 6 months.

Re: Discover is being picky with CLI

i requested for my first cli with them after 6 months of opening an account.

got denied.

that was back in july.

when i go back there now, i dont have the option to request.

just has the message saying that it isn't available for me at the moment, and gives me a number to call for more information.

Discover seems really random. All the data I have seen does not really seem to have any correlation for methods of obtaining a successful CLI. The financial climate in general is tough and lending seems to have tightened up. Keep a healthy credit profile and be thankful of the opportunity of free SP CLIs.

Discovers always been a bit unpredictable but its gotten worse in the current economic climate..... the goalposts have moved and the purse strings have tightened...when things start settling out or at least are becoming the new "normal", I imagine it will get better...

Hang in there...

Re: Discover is being picky with CLI

Here's what I think is happening:  with so many people in financial difficulty due to the COVID-19 crisis, Discover is taking a much more cautious approach to granting new credit.  As I've said before, don't pay too much attention to the stated reason for the denial, as those are from a standard list of reasons that have been approved by the bank's lawyers.  The reason given may not be an exact fit for your situation, but that won't make it any easier for you in a reconsideration call.

Daily Carry: PenFed Power Cash • NFCU Flagship • NFCU More Rewards • Chase Freedom
Sock Drawer: PenFed Promise • NFCU cashRewards • Chase Sapphire Preferred • Chase Freedom Unlimited • United Explorer • UNFCU Azure

Reason codes exist because they are obligated to give you your score and the reason codes associated to your profile. Those reason codes do not necessarily correlate to your denial reason from my understanding (however they could).

Re: Discover is being picky with CLI

There was a statement awhile ago that no Disco would get a CLI in its first year. But they are very random. Case in point - my scores are 25-40 points higher than a friend's. He has more recent derogs and makes at least $9k less than I do. My limit is $3100. Can't get a CLI to save my life. Today, friend prequal'd for ITCash. Took the app, approved for $7500.

I don't get it.

Man, I never got a CLI on My 2nd Disco after a year ... put some decent spend on it to.

Hard to figure out, That's for sure.
