Re: Discover it Secured approved and not approved scores?

Archange1 Well I applied for the chase freedom two months ago. I consider the freedom and discover it about the same card with same requirements for getting one. Chase declined me like I knew they would so I called the recon line hoping for more results. The lady at recon looked over my credit reports and said they wouldn't be able to approve me due to recent delinquencies. (I have 3 accounts in collections that are PIF. 1 five years old 2 three years old.) so I decided not to apply for discover it unsecured since I figured they would say the same thing but now with discover offering this secured card I figure this is the best way to get my foot in the door with a prime lender. I'm still waiting on the $500 to come out of my bank account and planning on putting $100 from each paycheck for 12 not the until I get unsecured.

ya, great job. I am just saying to put a high limit on it so the next time you do apply you can get better credit limits. Like i said, my first card was a secured from my bank and I put 2k in it. When I applied to capital one QS1 they gave me 3k CL. Thinking of saving and putting 10k in my secured so I can finally rise above. Great job anyway and you and I have a similar portfolio. Except I have a car loan whcih i got cosigned from my ex. (sigh i'm a user) Smiley Tongue

EDIT*  I see your car loan nvm <3

I was denied Cap1 QS1 becuase of a fraud alert on my file.  I know I should have been approved for it since that is one of their entry level cards, but Im happier that they denied me for it because it was a blessing in disguise getting the discover it secured.  No AF and Discover is a better lender IMO.

Re: Discover it Secured approved and not approved scores?

Just applied and I was denied due to my recent BK.Smiley Sad

Had to call in to verify some info and they checked my TU since EQ was frozen, denied due to recent BK.   Asked when would be a good time to reapply like in a year, 6 months, they couldn't answer that but they look forward to my reapplying.

Guess I should have waited longer and let my scores inch up higher and my BK age longer.

Re: Discover it Secured approved and not approved scores?

Well i just checked my bank account and the deposit was pulled from my account, exactly 48 hours after my application was approved.  Never been happier to see $400 to leave my account! Now the wait game begins

Re: Discover it Secured approved and not approved scores?

@pcsavvy1 They seem to hate us BK people! I guess the fact that we're willing to throw down our own money to guarantee that we aren't gonna mess up again isn't good enough. Days later and I still can't wrap my mind around anyone being declined for a secured card, ever.

it does seem like people with BKs on their reports are getting denied for it.  How long has your BK been discharged?  Its normally the other way around for me.  Something I really want is never possible for me to get.  I hope you can get it soon though!

Re: Discover it Secured approved and not approved scores?

I was discharged Nov. 2015, I did mention that I had gotten a new car through Honda Financial in Nov and was just approved for a secured CC with my CU but it just blows my mind that a secured CC for "rebuilding" will deny a recent BKer who is trying to rebuild their credit.  Gee, why the hell offer a secured CC if you are going to deny folks who are trying to rebuild after a BK?Smiley Frustrated

This would have been my first Discover card.

RIGHT?!? Omg, I got so frustrated when I got declined! I myself got approved for 2 $3k limit Cap1 cards 2 days after discharge, and I also have a $500 secured card from my brand new CU on the way. I just wanted an in with Discover. Guess they don't want me. It's a shame, I make a ton more money than when I filed BK and have no debt and I would've used the $h1+ out of their card. Their loss! Cap1 will get my business instead.

PS I saw someone on here get approved who had IIB discover (6 years ago, though)... What the heck?
