Hello forum!
I hope someone can help- I was denied for a Discover It card due to collections/ lien on my report. All the baddies are old-ish (original debt in 2008 and everything has been paid) and my recent repayment history is excellent, but it's taking a while for my score to creep up (TU at 660, EQ lower). What should I say to the folks at Discover to have a fighting chance at reconsideration? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Discover isn't known to really recon but you can certainly try.
I know this is an old post, buf I had a great experience with Discover recon. They had denied me due to inquiries and high utilization. Gave them a ring, explained the circumstances (all my older cards had limits of $500 or below; credit limits were stingy and the only way to lower my utilization was getting new cards with higher limits). They were more than fine with that and gave me a Discover it card with $1.5k limit.
Should warn you: my initial decline wasn't a flat "no"; I had been offered an opportunity to re-apply with a join applicant, so I knew I had *some* chance at talking my way in. Turns out I was right! Now I'm patiently awaiting my card - and I cannot WAIT to hit that luv button and get my first CLI!
