They dont like recently opened accounts (or many recently opened) from my experience. It took about 3 months from last account opening for both me and SO to finally get the pre-approval.
I would still strongly suggest to slow your roll on adding cards so that you will be more likely to get the cards you want.
More credit does not mean better credit nor does adding a lot of cards increase your chances of getting more cards.
You can check the discover preapproval page every 8 days, I believe. You will know when you have your chance when you get the pre-approval for it.
