Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

Hey AustinGuy, I read several posts from people that their best time to ask for CLI was at least a few days after statement close.

I have a data point that may be helpful:

I tried a CLI the day the FICO score was updated online. My score increased 18 points and asked for a CLI. The scoer dated 5 days before I asked for a CLI and it was 1 day before statement close. I got the 2 day review and just got the letter. The letter report the FICO socre for previous month.

I guess that even if the FICO is updated online somewhere in their system is not updated maybe until statement close. By requesting before the statement close they used my previous score that was 18 points lower than my current score.

This is what happened:

- saw score increase on December 17 (18 points)

- the score was dated December 12

- asked for a CLI and got 2 days, then a letter by mail

- the letter is dated December 17

- it lists TU FICO from November 12

So I think it is better to wait 2-3 days after statement close if your score increased and not ask when the score just update online.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

That's interesting indeed but, i usually just request mine on the 1st of the month at this point.  Trying to figure out the whole update / posting of your score each month I suspect will give you a headache.  It would make sense that if you see it online they would use that updated one instead of the previous month.  Guess like everything else there's a lag in the update to the system in which they make decisions vs what we see when we login.  I don't really think though that the score matters as much as your perfomance with them on a monthly basis.

I'm guessing you got dinged with the insufficient experience spiel they hand out quite often?  If you think it factors into the approve/deny of a CLI though maybe time your requests for when the statement cuts then.  How much time had passed since your previous request?  I find that sometimes for some people they'll approve CLI's every 30 days and others at 60 days and some 90+ days.  Haven't been able to crack that code other than spacing mine every other month yield a higher increase in relatively the same amount of time it would a lesser increase amount.

e.g. could make 6 req's for the year and get 6K/increase (36K/year) vs every 45 days and get 3-4K/increase (24-32K/yr).

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

Yes, I also think the score doesn't matter much, just some interesting information. It may help some people but in no way is a rule that a score increase will result on CLI. I bet that if I waited 4-5 days, and they used the higher score, still would have received the letter with 'insufficient experience...'

4 CLI this year for 22,500 increase. It was 33 days between the first 2, then a few months without a request, then 57 days between the other 2. The last try was 33 days from last. 4.5K, 6K, 6K and 6K.

Asking every 60 days is a good way to do it. I do prefer asking on week days.

DW's card has a lower limit, she just got her first 4.5K after 3 1.5K CLIs. She has a 0% purchase promo now, so she is using the card more and maybe she will not PIF the next few months. Let's see if they increase her limit.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

I like to ask after my statement closes each month, especially since my score has been on the rise.  I know a few points or even 10-20 points may not make a difference, but IMO I just feel better giving the best possible "look" to whoever is considering the CLI.  If I'm going to hit the button every month (which I do) it simply makes sense for me to do so a handful of days after the statement close (usually about a week) so I know everything has been updated, monthly info reported to the 3B, etc.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

Approved for Discover It today w/ $4K SL.  Low AAoA and multiple new accounts in past 6 months.  Satisfied with that, Citi DC gave me $3.7K a few days ago.  Looking forward to putting these methods to use!

Sounds good!  Question.  In your sig you write 3 scores and then a "FICO 08" score.  Where are you getting the 3 scores you list?  When you say "FICO 08" where are you getting that from?  All scores are going to be based on EX, TU or EQ data so I'm a bit confused where you got all of them from.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

After reading about lowering interest rates on cards here, I called Discover and they gave me a choice between 0% for another 12 months, or permanently lowering my APR by 2%

I took the 0% for 12 months Smiley Happy

My initial 0% intro APR ended a couple months ago.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

@BrutalBodyShots - FICO 8 scores are available on some credit cards. Not sure what cards you have but some synchrony have them, discover, citi, Barclays... Amex... among many others. Or you can join myFICO 3B Premier and get them... or you can just pay for them on myFICO as well. You also can get your EX by using Discover ScoreCard even if you aren't a cardholder yet... and if you are... get the TU from your Statement and use ScoreCard for EX. Hope this helps .

Yes I am aware of where scores can be acquired.  I was just confused by NANorris88 who had conflicting/confusing scores in his sig; his sig scores really didn't make sense which is why I asked him about them.  I see now he has revised his sig to only show one score, which is a FICO score but doesn't indicate through which bureau.  It is an improvement, though.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

I have a newbie question, does Discover cash back not post as soon as the transaction post? For example, Quicksilver "shows" the cash back totals per transaction as soon as it post.
My Discover, which is new, still shows 0 on cash back, even for the 1% catorgories.
