Can an APR reduction request be made right after a CLI? Is there any correlation of approval/denial?
I'm still in the 0 percent promo and 6/mo of having my Disco, can I still request an APR decrease for after the promo?
The only caveat is that you can't request an APR reduction until your 0% period ends since it would violate the CARD act. APR / CLI don't correlate from my experience. I got anther 0% for 12 mo's pretty easily with a chat online but, they wouldn't do a perm reduction for some reason even with scores in the 800's and CL over 40K. Maybe you have to carry a balance more often vs PIF to get a perm reduction.
My first Discover CLI has finally come.. (LUV BUTTON)
Instant Approved $500 CLI
New Line 5K
Tried calling after to recon but a no go, was told to try again in couple of months.
Tough Love..
After my not so happy start with Discover (only a $1250 SL to start!), I've waited about 100 days before pressing the love button (my 4th statement just cut) and am really pleased to report it gave me an instant increase of $1450! Now I'm up to $2700. Happy to see some love from discover finally
I got my first tiny CLI today with Discover after the 2 day message. My first 3 CLIs with Discover were all $3800-$4000 each, basically every month or so. The one I got today was only for $500. I'm going to try playing with my spend pattern this month to see if I can do better than $500 next month. I was spending $1500-$2000 on average per month with Discover when getting those bigger CLIs, then this past cycle I came in a little under $1000 on my spend. This month I'm going to take it down to $200-$300 and see what happens. I know some people have had nice results with smaller spends or dropping their spend and giving Discover some "tough love." If next month I come up with another $500 or get no CLI, I'll ramp my spend back up to $1500+ and see if that yields a favorable result in March.

When you request for CLI, do you put the same info all the time?
@Anonymous wrote:When you request for CLI, do you put the same info all the time?
Do you mean the 4 pieces of data entered at the CLI request screen with Discover? I believe it's just income, assets, employement status and monthly rent/mortgage payment. Yes, I always have those 4 pieces of info the same as they really don't change.
I have toyed with the idea of including my girlfriend's income to mine since she's lived with me for 5 years and I have reasonable access to her money (if I needed to) although her income is only about 1/3 of mine so it wouldn't be a huge increase. I've also thought about deducting the amount of escrow from my monthly mortgage payment and only entering in the principle + interest amount of the payment since technically that's all it is as I could in theory just pay all of my taxes once per year and my monthly payment would be almost half of what it actually is with the escrow included.
I'm not sure if either of these factors would help my chances of favorable Discover CLIs, but together I would certainly say they can't hurt.
@Vegas4Play wrote:I got my discover card in October 2015 my data points are listed below:
EQ Fico at approval 675 SL 7000 rate 10.25 - 2 Inq. not counting Discover
My file was thin at the time of approval. I only had First Premiere 900 CL, Credit one card 2K CL, Capital one card 3K CL, AU on 3 other cards CL from 10-12K and had just got 2 other Cap1 cards approved in September
CLI 2/15/2016 - 500.00 Instant. - 7500 used a lot highest balance 3500
CLI 5/23/2016 - 1500 instant - 9000 used a lot and did a balance transfer to it highest balance 7000
CLI requested 6/25 denied instant Not enough exp with current limit. heavy use balance 5000
CLI requested 7/25 denied instant Not enough exp with current limit heavy use balance 3000
CLI 9/24/2016 4000 instant - 13000 heavy use balance 9000
CLI 11/23/2016 - 6500 2 day message I logged in and saw it - 19500 balance currenly 600
I used the card often, my one year double cash back was 1400ish. I never took the cash out until the one year doubling. I let the balance report for the month then paid it off. Now that the double cash back is over for me. I will change cards and not use it as much. I will keep the balance low around 300-400 to see what CLI's I get in the next 6 months, I think I'll try every two months.
It has grown nicely in the last 12 months. My cash advance limit is only 1300, not that I ever use it. I just thought I would mention that is has always been low only 10% of my limits each time.
Just updating my Discover CLI record:
So I pressed the button on Dec 23, (30 days from last request) no go on CLI instant denial...letter stated not enough time with current limit.
Pressed the button 1/4 got 2 day mesage, logged in today 1/7 and limit went from 19.5K to 26K Balance on card 800.00 statement due to cut 1/9 willp ay down to 200.00.
Nice $6500 increase! What does your monthly spend look like?

Congrats.
I did a test too, 2 day after 32 days from last CLI and got the 'not enough experience' letter 8 days letter, then asked again that day, got 2 day message and 6 days later they approved 6K more.
I don't want to go over 40K limit with my income. It was a nice run, 4.5K and 4x6K increases in less than 9 months.
