@Anonymous wrote:Most of the data we have seen indicates that auto CLIs with Discover come in the first 60-90 days of opening the account and as time goes on the chances of receiving one seems to decrease. The exception to this is people that simply never request CLIs. If you never ask for one, naturally your chances of an auto-CLI will increase. Since you already manually requested CLIs twice in the first 90 days of having the account, those CLIs more or less took the place of an auto-CLI which you likely would have received had you not requested them yourself.
Your possibly right. But it did more than double the SL. Had a itchy finger I guess. Funny thing when they gave the last 1200, the e-mail said enjoy your 700 CLI. huh? I'm cool now. Chill and see what they do next. Thanks
I'm not in any way suggesting you did anything "wrong" in requesting CLIs yourself. It just seemed from your previous post that you were either waiting/expecting an auto-CLI at some point and I was just stating that based on the fact that you requested CLIs (and received them) yourself that it's not all too likely to receive an auto-CLI any time soon. Regardless you grew your limit, so mission accomplished
I just responded pre-approval letter. I got approved for 1K. I was expecting more but that's a start.
Congrats! Welcome to the Discover family 😬

Congrats
Thought I'd add a CLI datapoint. Was approved last October for a CLI. Waited 61 days after that and applied for another CLI. Was denied and recieved the message: insufficient time with current limit (or something like that). Waited another 31 days (92 since last approved CLI) and applied today. Was approved for a $1500 increase $5600 -> $7100. Note that I called a CSR after the 61 day denial and they told me that they only reconsider once every 30 days which is why I waited the extra 31 days after my denial before retrying.
So to summarize what I found reading through everyone else's posts it seems the paradigm for discover is that you can be approved for another CLI in as little as 30 days but for some it may be more like 60 or 90 days depending on your unique profile. Seems I'm currently in the 90 day group for them!
Also just FYI nothing changed drastically on my profile in that time as far as my score, personal income, etc. I did add 2 new cards to bring me up to my goal of 5 cards but the HPs/AAoA change didn't decrease my score too much.
While it isn't very common, it has been reported by multiple people that they've received Discover CLIs at little as 20-21 days apart. 30-31 days is not a set in stone "rule" but certainly one that most people follow and that seems to be true in most cases.

Being impatient around here comes with the territory Bella! That's why I wanted to put something comprehensive together and try to stay on top of Disco threads to give some insight and encouragement. It's alright to be impatient once you're in the door with Disco but counter productive before they let you in the door. I was hitting them up every week for part of the first year but my intent was trying to get their timing down to more of a science. Obviously it didn't do much other than provide some data points since they didn't really budge much quicker during those times if not went a bit longer to a 90 day spread. Now they're opening up with consistent 6K every other month. I think the $800 is a good step in the right direction and think if you went every other month it should more than double the amount with the lessened frequency. Then again we don't have it down to a science either quite yet but there's a pretty good idea while painting the picture with them. Thanks again for putting all the work into gathering datapoints! I am very tempted to wait 60 days to ask for my next CLI, just to see what happens. We'll see if I can make it!
Just an update...of course I did not wait 60 days, and I got the 2-day message
7/10/16 approved $1000 SL
11/13/16 CLI $500
12/15/16 CLI $800
01/15/17 2-Day Review...Denied "Insufficient Experience with Current Limit on Discover Card
I had Discover since 2012 SL was $1000 and never received auto CLI. I called and each time for CLI and they kindly gave them to me. Fico scores avg 640, however it was my daily driver. Current line is $20,000. I was told on the last request 2 years ago, that I needed to provide POI because of my debt levels. Since, then they have reduced my rate from 22% to 12.99%.
Increases:
$1000 > $4,400 > $12,000 > $20, 000
Interesting thread.
Here are my unofficial data points:
I was approved for a Discover card initially with a $1k SL and I received my first CLI at 91 days: $500
Another 91 days go by and I receive another $500 CLI; that's when my 31 to 61 day increases started coming in:
$1000
$500
$1,500
$4,000 (31 days)
$6,500 (31 days)
$3,000 (31 days)
I always receive the "2 day" message.
I'm not sure if having the account open for 6 months started the large CLI's or it was me changing my payment habits; I would usually make multiple payments a month but stopped doing that and started making 1 payment per month.
