So I seem to have hit some limit.
Discover card issued Nov 2015 with IIRC $9k limit. CLI's every 30 or 60 days reliably, usu $1.5k or so, until last CLI hit $18,500 in Jan 2017.
Since then denied at 30, denied at 60, denied at 90, denied at 120. All "insufficient experience". I have a clean file with a FICO around 760 and 2yrs AAoA and zero inq's in the last year, always PIF on all cards. CITI is still giving me CLI's regularly. Amex CLI'd up to $40k and at that point I stopped asking. It's possible the $40k on Amex bugs Discover since I haven't gotten a Discover CLI since Amex 40k.
Not a big deal, I don't need the extra limit, it's just my hobby applying for CLI's while I sit in the garden
But I thought I'd share the data.
Both the Discover It and Miles card
At 30,60,90 and 120 All with the same out come.
CREDIT LINE INCREASE REQUEST
At this time, we cannot increase your credit line.
However, you can make another request at a future time. You will receive a letter in 3-5 business days that will detail the reasons for this decision.
I know Discover is supposed to be a really good card to have but I'm starting to hate it enough to the point of actually calling and cancelling it just becuase it's my lowest limit card. I was insulted they started me at 4K considering I had no cards below 10K (I have 6 cards 10K or greater with 3 at 25K). All I wanted was my Discover to at the very least reach 10K and all I keep getting is that darn 3-5 day message. Last CLI with online request was back in early February putting me at the current 8K. I wonder if I call to cancel the card if they'll finally bump me to 10K at the very least. Haha.

They can be frustrating when you're used to getting a CL handed out like candy from other lenders. Since the 3/29 issue though the CLI's have been a bit more sporadic. So, Feb was your last request just like mine that as approved and nothing since then. Comparing Disco to other lenders though and being insulted is a bit over reaching considering they're a direct lender and not just another licensee like V/MC and even Amex to a certain extent.
When I started out I was in the same situation where Disco started at $4500 and everything else was average of 17K limits and a high limit of 29K. I was a bit miffed as well when I saw the limit and didn't quite get why Amex would start at 10K and Disco was <5K. I started digging around here and a couple of other places and started to find that they start out lower than your average lender in most cases just because that's what they do. Once you go on a few dates with them though then they loosen up a bit and start handing out more CLI's. After a few dates and unlocking the code mine blossomed in 3-4K/CLI increments until Aug of last year when I spaced out the requests more to 6K/CLI increments.
Disco takes some work and it's not for everyone but, if you put in the time and effort they do pay off in the end. With most of us circling the airport at this point when it comes to CLI's you're in good company waiting for a landing. Now if you had not gotten a CLI in 8 years like my crap1 then I wouldn't fault you for being pissed about it and wanting to close it but, Disco is more of a premium card than that crap1 ever was. Most take 2-5 times of applying to get in the door before they welcome you into the dining room for your filet dinner. Sure, crap1 lets you in and if your profile is primed for what they're looking for they'll toss a ton of funny money at you to begin and then the well dries up.
I've been seeing more of an uptick in CLI's being handed out in the last couple of weeks so, with that in mind just be patient and wait for the train to fire up the engines and sound that horn to get aboard again.
Agreed. Once they open up again, the discover cli train is definitely worth riding.
Most can hit 20k+ in a year.
They definitely cracked down after Christmas.
My DW Discover is not growing very well at the moment either (started as a 200 secure card and now its at 1500 unsecured).
We experiment and put lots of spend on it one month and barely anything next month just to see if we can get discover to show some luv.
Got my usual Monday 3-5 day message today, as expected.
$3000 limit PIF every month
90 days no CLI
3rd statement cut this morning no CLI
Rejected for requests for CLI after 60 days, 90 days and 2nd statement. Have not tried yet after 3rd statement, but will tomorrow.
Next step if I'm rejected is a conversation with the Credit Analysts tomorrow afternoon. I'm still not viewing it as a major thing, but I would like to know if I'm missing something.

You might get a CLI tomorrow after the 3rd statement cuts, but sorry to tell you their credit analyst do nothing more than looking at a computer screen and say yes or no. They aren't true analysts that can override the computer like Chase, BofA, etc.. Although they call themselves credit analysts. I am certain discover has them, we just don't have access to their numbers no matter what number someone provides you on this forum they can't override what the computer tells them. Althogh they will tell you things like you can try every 30 days or possibly other insightful information to make you feel warm and fuzzy. I do wish you the best, they just haven't been very helpful other than a pleaseant attittude everytime I have spoke to them other than possibly getting another 500 CLI on top of the one the computer gave me already which they can do sometimes.
Thanks for the insight. I'm not expecting to speak with with a real analyst, but rather an "analyst" (someone who has the title but not the skillset).
It's not a big deal, but if all I'm hearing is people get CLIs within 90 days or after the third statement and I'm not getting similar results at day 112 despite putting several thousand through the card and PIF every month, then at least I would like to know what they're seeing on their screen so it can be addressed.
