Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

I was approved for the It card back in Feb'17 for 9k. Disco thought they were my highest limit because my amex CLI had not yet hit my reports(18k). I put $600 on the first month..then $1k the second and 3 rd month and $1.5k the 4 th month. My first CLI came at 87 days after opening the acct.-$3k increase..then I got $1.5k increase 31 days later... I tried another 31 day CLI on July 6.. but no dice...I did read it's hard to get 3 months in a row CLI...but I may be wrong..so I am not hitting the love button for another month or so...and will put maybe $600 spend on it this coming month...anyway I am at $13.5k with Disco and if I eventually get it to $20k...I will be happy...no need to go for a big high limit...want to save that for Citi and Bof A...I am happy with Discover and will keep it even after the Double cash back expires...

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

my Barclays cash rewards and my Cap one quicksilver cards and Amex cards blow discover out of the water. this is why discover will always be a bottom feeder card.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

The only reason most people had a discover card was they knew it grew fast giving you a better utilization score or it was the first card that came after you when you started with credit building....If they have stopped giving CLI not many people will have much to do with them. discover most think they're Amex or something Smiley Wink  sock drawer it is!!

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

I'm sorry Discover gave me such a high SL.

I did not pick the limit, but it feels like I did something wrong.

My high from finally getting a nice card with a decent limit after 39 years of life is wearing off.

I feel as if people are upset with my SL and that I shouldn't have recieved it.

It's my first non-store CC over $2k.

Please be happy for people who are shown their first amount of true credit love.

They may keep me at this limit forever and I'd be okay with that.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

They gave me $9000 SL..that is my highest Starting limit ever...my TU fico was 825...no negs or lates..so Amex ,Citi and BoA love me and Cap 1 ,Chase and Wells Fargo hate me...no CLI love from them lol...I'm still happy with Discover...even tho after the first year will probably only use it for warehouse clubs and gas stations categories...and just enough to keep it an active and open TL

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

Total, be proud of your limit and dont worry about how others view their Discover. We each have our goals and accomplishments, cards that work and dont work for us. Take your limit and run with it to happytown lol, i sure know i would.

We know Discover is kooky but to each their own, and i believe youll get to 10k plus with yours and there is no shame in that gameSmiley Wink. Have fun with it be responsible with it and most important, Discover that you have the IT factor Smiley Happy

I'm happy for your limit, and I'm hoping you will be happy too!  I dont know that anyone is necessarily bitter at your spending limit as they are with Discover for giving them theirs.  Both of your emotions are completely warranted, but maybe folks would do well to let you know their bitterness isn't directed at you.  I think you both provide data points that are interesting that  may help others in the future.

I IIBed disover so who knows if and when I could get back in.  So both ends of the spectrum may have a leg up on me.  Does anyone recall seeing anything in this thread about getting back with discover after IIB?

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

Agree the vents aren't directed at anyone that get awesome starting limits or CLI's like candy.  It is just how Discover does business that doesn't make any logical sense in our eyes, but certainly in theirs it does.  As stated above I believe they think I won't make them any money as I don't carry CC balances just to appease lenders (not saying others do either) and I don't do BT's or spend alot of a 1% card just to try to get a CLI for several months as i am always going to use the card that gives me the best Cash back or perk.  Discover knows they won't make a dime off me based on my other cards and learned to accept it although I am still bitter Smiley Happy.. So please others don't take it personal it is just data points from people with good limits and experiences and people with bad experiences and liimts
