Man, I am awarding you MVP of the day! Besides making this a great thread, youve finally gotten me to watch SHALLOW HAL after 16 years!! I cant believe I havent seen this before, especially being it has my boy Tony Robbins in it! I paused it in the elevator scene to write this and make sure I had given you kudos(which I had!) And of course, finally watching this, I had to make sure I was good and plastered to give it the respect of a fertile brain that 16 years deserves!!Still early on in the movie, but I think I'm going to enjoy it! (I just watched Kid Rock play "Fortunate Son" at Woodstock 99 before this, so Im remembering what a great era that was!!)
LOL I'm glad I could be a motivator for you to enjoy Shallow Hal. It's your basic Farrelly Brothers stupid comedy but I've always liked it. I particularly liked the dig at trolls who chase models.
You made me go watch that Kid Rock performance. Not bad, but those runs at the end... I was just shaking my head. No, Kid, no. You ain't Christina. Then of course I fell down a YouTube hole watching covers of Fortunate Son.

OK, I also would like to know your thoughts on my approval odds of getting the Disco card.
I have NO collections or any type of derogatory items on my credit reports.
Fico scores are TU: 720 EQ: 718 EX: 705
I currently have 2 CC
ELAN Financial- acquired thru my personal bank (wsfs-used Elan Finan. as a 3rd party at that time 2/2016) secured $300. Once 2/2017 came around I asked for it to be changed to an unsecured card. It was approved. Two days later, I asked for a CLI of $700 to make it a total of $1,000. I was afraid to ask for anything more because I thought I would be denied. The $700 increase was approved.
3/2017, I wanted a 2nd card and I had applied to Capital one the previous year and was denied so I wasn't going to apply again and I definitely wasn't going to apply to Disco bc I wanted my score to be much higher (at the time it was low 600's). So in applied to Credit One....ugh big mistake bc I hate the annual fee but I was desperate for another card. Anyway I was approved for $300. Less than a month later I had an auto increase of $150, making it $450.
Now having this 2nd card, of course it lowered my age of credit to less than a year (it is presently up to 9 months now...age of credit)
I want to apply now for a Disco card since my scores have increased nearly 200 points since Jan/2017 (it was in the 500's) HOWEVER..... I'm afraid bc I had a lit of inquiries on my credit reports due to car shopping last year (after just 2 days and going to 2 dealerships I stopped once I seen that my credit was being ran so many times!) I have 19 inquiries on my TU, 16 on my EX and I believe only 9 on my EQ. I know when shopping around it only counts as one inquiry of time in a 14 days time frame but with it showing on my reports individually I'm thinking they will deny me of approval. May you PLEASE give me your opinion on whether you think I will be approved or not??? Should I just wait until Aug/Sept or just bite the bullet now? 3 inquiries are due to fall of btw Sept/Oct, just fyi.
Thanks in advance for your input. Oh yeah I will add that I have have NO late payments whatsoever either and I keep my utilization below 30%, but mostly below 20%.
Hiya Britt. I'm not an expert so I won't comment on your particulars but I can share some anecdotes that may help you. When I applied for a Discover It my credit file was thinner than thin, my AAoA was in the toilet, I had 2 derrogatory accounts, and my average FICO was 654. I was approved with a SCL of 7,500.
Not but a week ago I encouraged a friend to apply. She had a thick file with no derrogs, an open mortgage, a couple of closed mortages, and quite a few open accounts in good standing. BUT, she had a truck load of inquiries due to a newer mortgage and and an additional re-finance. She also had 30-ish% utilization. Her score was mid 600's. She was approved with a SCL of 9,500.
So I'd think your odds of not only getting the card but getting a nice SCL are excellent.
I got tired of waiting on a CLI and closed my Discover card. They offered 0% for 12 months to keep the card.
It was open for 18 months. No CLI since January 7th. $3000 limit that started at $1000.
Had to use HP to get first CLI around 4 or 5 months in. Got $500 and never more than that through the life of the card.
It was my first unsecured card. I'm glad it's over.
Britt,
I've learned not to worry so much about denials. I mean, I'm not going to app when I'm unprepared and my credit file doesn't call for it, but in March I applied for 6 cards (that's a long story I've written about elsewhere) and 2 told me no. BUT, 4 told me yes. At the end of the day and hard pull is a hard pull. So just because one rejects you doesn't mean there aren't other good cards that you'll like just as well.
Basically what I'm saying is that credit cards are like boys -- there's always a new one sniffing about whose upside is just as good as the last one. Knowwhatimsayin?

Hi Britt, as the Cap and WhiteCleats have alluded to, i believe you would have a good shot as Disco loves thin files. I personally dont think the inqs will spook them but they may view you as a prime candidate for their card as you aren't loaded down with too many cards.
Of course with Disco, its always Ymmv because no matter how good you think your profile is or isnt, their approving someone can be so perplexing as one might have a better shot at predicting which rain drop is bigger. In my 2 year rebuild, Disco and i tangoed 5 times for 6 hps before i was worthy enough to grace the viewing party for Shallow Hal
BEST OF LUCK
THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT DISCO, anyone
I think what AverageJoe's is trying to say is that he once thought Discover was a total smoke show and then his best friend said "Average Joe's wants a card" to him and then he thought Discover was a troll.
At least that's my take-away.

Reading a lot into that, eh?!
