Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

I'm sure I read the answer to this already but I've asked DisCo twice for a CLI but both times I got the (paraphrased) answer, "Not enough history wih this CL" letter.  They also (both times) mentioned their decision was, in part, decided with TU's report of 693 score.

QUESTION: Does DisCo *always* do a HP whenever we ask for a CLI?  The answer, due to my own two requests has been a 100% "yeppers".

Did you request a CLI before your 3rd statement?  I did and got the same denial response. No HP though.

No, they do not always do a HP. They're not supposed to do one at all although some of us worry about a slip up because we're paranoid. But the SP score is already on your statement each month and Discover's Scorecard is likely what they're even looking at for your score.

If someone on the phone actually said "yeppers", I'd hang up and try again. Haha.

OK, cool... I haven't seen any HP alerts on any of my credit monitors for DisCo lately.  And yeah, I've only been thru 2 billing cycles with them and have tried twice just because I'm P***ed at the fact I've only got a $500 CL when I've got 3 more CL's over $15k.  SHRUG.

@bizarrocreditworldJust wasted a few minutes of my time with a "credit analyst" who basically ran the usual "insufficent time with this credit limit" garbage. I wanted him to explain how my wife gets a much larger SL and a CLI after 60 days that is almost the size of my CL even though I've had my card longer and I have better FICO scores. He couldn't say anything except "everybody's credit profile is different". I pointed out that my credit profile is much better than hers (she has one baddie on Experian and multiple 30, 60, and 90 day lates. I have nothing).

I found it insulting to say the least. Into the sock drawer it goes!

When it comes to lenders (and definitely Discover) better isn't always better.  Sometimes their target customer is someone that is a little more risky, but the additional reward (profit) outweighs the additional risk.

Precisely.

Discover's target demographic is what they term "prime revolvers", so if you're a transactor, you're already second on the totem pole. That said, my own experience seems to point to heavy usage being a mitigating factor, even if said usage is almost 99% within the 5% category and nothing else. (in fact I've never even let a non-zero statement report so far, and have no plans on changing this in the near future)

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

I think I'm going to close Discover CC. I've been with Discover for over a year and half.

I'm still stuck with 1500 limit since a year or so.

Just tried CLI. DENIED!!!

TU: 791 according to CCT

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

I tried again, a month or so after the previous one, yesterday for a CLI on my older Discover IT, the one with $4500 CL, seeing that my score had been updated (it was updated with the pull from the successful app for my 2nd Discover), but I was turned down again even though my TU had gone up by 9-10 points since my last attempt and I had paid off that card early last month.  I guess this older card is pretty much stuck where it is so I'll just use the Cash Back Match, pay off the remaining balance and concentrate on growing my new one with a view to combining the two next year.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

I think iv said this in the past.. lately there have been more "stuck" Discover cards then in the past... Not sure if some of it is due to the Discover Secured offering, or that Disco was easing up on the approvals but had to reign them back in due to the current economic climate... We *do* know that Discover uses ABS's to buy accounts just like Cap One... BUT iv also seen a few folks do well re-apping (just like Cap One) ... after a year if their scores have significently improved...  Don't get me wrong.. I like that Discover offers such a nice secured offering at this point and it can grow to a point.. but more and more cards are getting landlocked on CLIs... And there are ways to minimize/possibly not get additional HPs when apping for a Discover now...

Well, that's true - as I mentioned earlier my new card has a SL 2X that of my old one. I'm planning to try to make better use of the 5% CB categories with this one, especially the current one for groceries, to see if that gets CLI's kickstarted.

Wow, you take that score elsewhere. Seems like the general consensus is that Disco is mid-grade, even beginner but they have shown some love to top tiers as well. It sure is a weird game. There was a thread I read a week or so ago of someone on here that has a $68k line with Disco. Maybe app for another IT card and see what your SL is?
