Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

Personally, I think CLIs are nice but not worth paying for, I would not sacrifice my 6% cash back for groceries on my BCP or other higher cash back spending just to drive up my numbers with Discover, nor would I throw away 10% on gas and wholesale clubs (after cashback match) this quarter just to show them some tough love, all in an attempt to trigger a CLI. I think your Discover spending decisions should be based on maximizing cashback and let CLI chips fall where they may, let your credit work for you not the other way around.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

Discover IT card (got it 1 year ago and 1 year out of BK, SL 15k), just made my first and only request for CLI, got 4k increase to 19k.

Decent use of the card (about 30k over the year), with 0% for 14 months, always carried a balance but with the 14 months ending, it is winding down to 0.

I agree 100% and wouldn't ever suggest otherwise.  One has to be strategic in their timing of the recommendations I gave in my previous post on the previous page.  If one wishes to show Discover some tough love, it should be done during a quarter where you have zero use for their quarterly category.  For me, this happens at least once or twice a year.  I use my Amazon prime card from Chase for example, so Amazon 5% from Discover is pretty meaningless for me in Q4.  That's when I found the time to give them tough love and scored a $5500 CLI in the process.  Same thing with a heavier spend... of course do that during a quarter where you find value in their 5% category offering.  Never would I suggest leaving money on the table in rewards in order to simply increase your credit limit.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

So i get that my score is still low, but i use and PIF ( have to tho, the limit sucks)  and they just wont budge on my CL.   and after the chat i just had where for the umpteenth time discover has told me they cant do anything about it and no idea if/when it could happen.. i really just want to cancel it.    i have much better reward cards with limits that dont put me at 75% UTIL for one purchase, and not even a large one.

5% on gas till 3/31 keeps them off the chopping block for now, but it and my cashback match end on 3/31..   maybe theres a reason for that.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

If you feel the need to cancel Discover outside of Year 1, don't sweat it.  Outside of the first year it's not a very useful card unless you constantly see value in their 5% rotating categories.

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

Hi, so I'm back. My second statement is about to cut.  Is it 60 or 90 days for the first CLI?  I do have the button under "manage account" but it takes me to a broken page.. lol

Re: Discover unOfficial Data Points

General consensus is (was?) 90/91 days. Do note there have been anecdotes of people getting them before then but, like most of what disco does, it appears random.

I did my first request on 91st day, as I always pad one extra day over the time limit before a CLI just to be sure. Went from $10k to $13k in 91 days which isn't bad.

Could request and probably get a huge 2nd cli now (Fico8 +102 and deleted all paid collections since 1st CLI) but honestly I don't need more from disco and don't want to extend/risk my total credit exposure. After the first round of CLIs on my new cards I kinda lost the taste for limit chasing but that's not to say others have to. Good luck on your request!
