So got the 5-7 and then today the email to verify information. When I call they tell me systems are down and to call back in 24 hours

Weekends are bad for apping on new accounts.  Typically when they'll do system maintenance on the network.  When it comes back up the backlog of apps will go through and get processed.  Monday morning you might wake up to another Approval!

Well in your OP you said they said their systems were down.

 

2nd you applied for AMEX and got 10K out of them.

 

Last summer I applied for both AMEX / Discover and both were instant approvals.  I only thought to make the 2nd app after the first due to the approval of some of the singiest lenders I've applied to over the years and all of the denials.  Turned out one approval equaled the additional approval.  As for the systems down issue.... unfortunately it's a common issue during backend upgrades that run long or fail in the middle and end up needing to restore from a backup which take several hours on top of the initial upgrade process.

 

You can also do a "check status" from the website if you don't want to wait for the e-mail or call back.

They actually called me on Monday morning and verified a few things and approved!! I'm in with Discover thanks to what I've learned here!!!
