No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
Discover offers 3 cards:
IT - rotating 5% categories per quarter, 1% on everything else, cashback card
Chrome - flat 2% on gas/restaurants, 1% on everything else, cashback card
Miles - “travel” card, earn miles
Which one you choose, depends on which rewards structure you want.
The student card is easier to get approved for. The student IT and student Chrome are available. Not sure about a student Miles.
Use the pre-qualify tool to see if your pre-approved.
Go for the IT Student Card. You have better odds of approval since you are a student and in the process of building credit. It will likely be SP so no harm no foul even if u get denied. Just FYI they IT and IT for Students are both the same, same benefits!
What is SP if you don't mind me asking? Thank you both for your advice as well.
Do you have a FICO score reporting, as in can you pull a fico score... it takes 6 months of credit use to generate a fico....
If not.. Discover uses "enhanced scoring" designed for new/no credit folks ... WITH THE STUDENT CARD....
The only slight gotcha with the student card.. is youll see slightly slower growth... but it is easier to get...
Also try seeing if you can sign up for Credit Scorecard.... you may or may not be able to... would also tell us if you already have a fico score generating....
I apped (and no i wasnt in school at the time) so i didnt check the box for student..... I got denied but they sent me an enhanced score which would have been more than high enough for their student card........
