About 2 yrs ago I started with a Disco Secured card. They graduated me after about 10mos Unsecured $3000 CL and immediately i did a PC to the Disco It Cashback. About 3mos ago I did a pre-approval on their site and wasn't pre-approved for anything so I decided to bite the bullet for "science" and applied for another secured card. I was denied and the denial letter stated I was denied due to the # of Disco accounts I had. I was under the impression you could have up to 2 Disco cards. For the last 3yrs I have an active checking and savings with Disco the savings has never had less then $5k in it. what's weird is that a few weeks after getting denied they gave me CLI of $700. Has anyone else had this experience with discover? Are they considering my ATM card as a 2nd card or does this seem like a bogus reason for the denial?
No the savings account/debit card isn't hurting you. You should call them and ask what's up. They're always very nice to talk to.

I applied for one of their cards. They wanted me to send them a copy of my driver's license. I didn't bother. At that point, I had well over $100K in card limits and a score over 800. I didn't need or want their crappy card enough to comply with their insulting demand - one that no other card issuer I had ever dealt with had made.
They are legally bound to verify your identity so it's not an unreasonable request. I've provided it to FI's a number of times. You don't have to provide the information if you don't choose to. They don't have to I open an account for you if won't verify your identity to their standards.
Yup
If you've already been unsecured I wouldn't even bother apping for another secured card. If you really want a second Discover I'd wait till the preapproval shows unsecured options and apply then. For me, my account unsecured after 7 months and the preapproval tool started showing unsecured options after my account reached one year old.

@GTS, if you opt to call for clarification, please share what you learned.
Best wishes!

Then why did you apply for their "crappy" card? Really? #SMH
